The View from the Home End

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

The View from the Home End

Postby CuteMancs » Fri Jan 07, 2022 4:24 pm

Once again, sorry this is super late. There is a very boring story about having to use a different laptop, but I won’t go into that here. The pre match thread is pretty weird! There are lots of comments about their ticketing system, mostly related to delays caused by Christmas post. There are also pages about the odds you can get on this game, the fact that they have a new shirt sponsor tonight (a betting company) and that they will have electronic advertising. Once you get through all that, here are a few comments about the game. Hope you enjoy this little pre match reading. I'm off to the pub to get a few in before kick off

COME ON CITY!!!

Referee Darren England

Assistant Referees Lee Betts & Harry Lennard

Fourth Official David Coote

Team Selection

Ward
KKH  Odimayo  Crichlow  Hunt
Reed   Lyden
Williams   Payne
McKirdy
Simpson

And the rest...

Potential banana skin this one, we mustn't underestimate them. I think City may even sneak it...1-2

Will be interesting to see how we line up. Imagine we will go 3 at the back for this so Hunt, Odimayo and Crichlow as centre backs as they are our most mobile. Then will either be Payne if he’s injured or Williams to drop out to accommodate the extra defender. Other than that as per yesterday as the Reed & Lyden midfield works.

No point getting our knickers in a twist about who plays for Man City. For me, I’d like to see the nearest thing to their first XI as possible.
I want to see Sterling not Oleg McNoleg.

It's difficult to know how 'weak' the Man City team is going to be so a prediction is tricky. I imagine there will be a smattering of first teamers so we do actually have a chance. I reckon we'll give them a really good game but we might fade towards the end. I'll go 1-4.

Real shame Pep isn't going to be there, but might work in our favour (clutching at any straw available!)

I think the FA insist the games go ahead or are awarded with a Bye if either team cannot field XI players anyway, so City will just send one of their reserve/youth teams.

U-10s hopefully.

Seem like a proper football club to me. Sure, they’ve got billions but I bet we won’t see Newcastle outstripping them any time soon.

We didn't pay as much as 50p for anyone in our squad, did we? Don't think we have a single player we paid a fee for - Gladwin the first time round I guess?

50p would be our big money signing.

Today's the day.Really looking forward to watching some absolute masters of their craft at work and also quite interested in seeing what City have to offer.

They may have Jesus up front but God is a lifelong Swindon fan.

That front 3 will be ‘interesting’ a lot of people say that Palmer will be better than Foden.

Well congratulations to all on making this one of the longest and most bizarre match day threads ever, and we are still 6 hrs away from kick off..

I like that. Their fans seem down to earth. Good luck to them tonight.

I have to say it is the first time I've seen flightradar mentioned a match day thread

Seem a real good bunch of supporters, I didn't read all 40+ pages but not one insult aimed us that I saw.

“Today's the day.Really looking forward to watching some absolute masters of their craft at work and also quite interested in seeing what City have to offer.”

I particularly enjoyed this one.

Their chairman has also made a nice video wishing everyone that has Covid at City all the best (take note, everton, that this how normal people behave) and the City fans a safe trip, so it seems they are decent people. Reassuring to see the media smear campaign doesn’t fool everyone.

And I always did like XTC, particularly “The Big Express”, “Nonsuch” and of course the mighty “Apple Venus”.

I remember being there in the promotion season from Championship to Premier when Joe Royle’s team won 2-0. I think Bob Taylor scored. Or was it Badbuy.

After they’ve been so nice I’d like to apologise for the swindle town reference on here the other day.

We really do need to win this, though.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

I sent my son in law a couple of quotes from above he is a Swindon fan this is what he said -:

Yeah. Good humour in the SW. Most people seem to be taking it for what it is. A chance to see one of the best teams in the world at the County ground

That is the consensus in the town, decent lot apparently.

I missed the flightradar comments out, but only because I have Flight Finder on my devices :)

Was just about to post about this - really reminded me of City fan's humour.
