Absolutely not, Pep is great at managing a team over a season adjusting for the number of games and player rotation etc.
But when it comes to one off games he is often found wanting, look how many semi finals we have lost against teams we should have beaten. We even got to the final of the CL and Pep fucked up. Do I think we would have beaten the dippers if we had got to the final in Paris? Definitely not, in the unlikely event that we would have put our best team out, Klipperty would manage the game better, it was posted the other night how Klipperty changed the game against Villarreal when they were 2-0 down at ht, subs were made different approach and dippers battered them.
When was the last time Pep did that in a one off? Usually the pattern is set, we know from the start if we are going to win, likewise not win.
In other words we know the pattern of the game is not going to be changed by a thoughtful sub and or sweeping tactical approach.
In summary Pep is a great, if not the greatest PL manager, in one off knock out games not so much.
I actually think he has done well without a top class striker. And yes he makes mistakes, but he is the right man going forward.
Give him the personnel he needs.
Pep has spent over a billion Euros on players he wanted , how much more does he need till he gets it right ?
Do we just allow him to waste millions on players like cancelo and , up to now , Grealish ?
There is ZERO excuse we have no Left back , no forward , no depth in the CB department - Zero excuse at all - that’s down on him , not the City hierarchy.
If pep is indeed guilty of everything you have accused him of since he arrived, there is no way he should be managing this club.
Or probably any other.
I disagree with most of that Carl and you also left out the most important aspect when discussing Pep - unfair treatment by the authorities.
Authorities have a huge negative influence (impossible to quantify accurately aside from saying it is massive) on Pep's tenure.
For ex, the RM game (Casimiro, time wasting, added time, blowing up early. Same Vs. Liverpool Milner no red card, Sterling's offside goal, etc...)
Klopp is being lauded but how good would he be if he managed with 'Pep rules' and Pep managed with 'Klopp rules'?
For starters there is an 8 point swing in the PL based on our two games against Liverpool i.e. Red for Milner and Sterling goal stands.
In the CL in the group stages: Dippers Vs. Athi, yellow not Red for Athi player, in the 2nd game there was an identical foul by a dipper so he would get a Red instead of a yellow and no Athi player would have been sent off.
Because of the above we get to play a rested first team in the FA Cup semis but Dippers don't........
Cascading effects.
On and on it goes. Watch tonight Robertson will be allowed kick the shit out of Spurs players without worrying about a card....
Re the other stuff.
The hierarchy do the deals for the players Pep wants. They are responsible for not getting a striker in.
We beat RM if we had Kane - easily. Not Pep's fault that negotiations failed.
We have debth at CB - Diaz, Laporte, Stones and Ake. That is depth.
I agree re LB and RB. Mendy is in prison, not Pep's fault, but Mendy is beyond shit and that is Pep's fault that he has not been replaced.
Our first choices are great Cancelo and Walker but there is no depth of cover. A glaring weakness that should have been addressed.
In summary, if City were treated the same as the other top teams and if the hierarchy had got Kane, Pep would probably be going for the quadruple.
If Liverpool were made play to the rules imposed on us Klopp would win nothing. That is how good Pep is, 3 PLs and maybe a 4th on the horizon.
