The “evidence “ you provided was from 2 years ago . We keep evolving, Johh Stones can pass little sideways passes all day and and back passes to Ed all day but he can’t pass forwards it is that simple . Watch Laporte and Dias from last season and re watch Dias v Newcastle last Sunday. Then watch Stones last season and v Newcastle last Sunday .
Fine detail and it is one of the reasons he doesn’t start regularly for City but is always available for Southgate and England .

And also made a comment directed at Stones about “some players aren’t fit for City but when it’s international they play all the time”.

Hmmmm fairly sure that was you mate ;)

Haha I’ve probably changed it in my head about a million times.

Thinking back now I think he used Foden as an example of a player that wanted to play even though they had niggles, whereas some are able to play but choose not to because of “injury”. I can’t remember the full quote.

KDB is one of your favourites too

Also as above but it might get boring this but finer details needs explaining blah blah …….
Newcastle closed down Rodri for large parts of the first half last Sunday and it was a tactic that worked well . But the effort the Newcastle players put into that meant they were always going to tire in the 2nd half . The out ball from our CBs is to Rodri but he had 2 Newcastle players closing him down so KDB and Bernardo and at times Gundo had to come deep to collect the ball instead of Rodri . We couldn’t get forward quick enough and ended up losing the ball more often than not around the half way line . Dias started passing the ball longer forward and even moved out with it 2nd half , Rodri found more space and become more of himself in the 2nd half . John Stones simply can’t do what Dias did and Laporte does it better than Dias . To counteract high press high energy teams you have to pass the ball out forward from the back .

Yep, Kev playing for Belgium after being twated by Rudiger was ridiculous. He’s done it a few times and at some point he’ll realise if he wants to extend his career where he gets paid the big money then it’s probably best to knock international football on the head.

Sorry mate, but Stones is MUCH better than Dias with the ball at his feet. Both in regards of progressive passing and bringing the ball forward through the opponent's first press. It's a toss up between him and Laporte who's the best playmaker CB.

Let's agree to disagree on the best abilities of our 4 top class centre backs. I disagree with you that Stones can't play forward passes against teams with high energy press because I've seen him do it. In 3 different matches against Liverpool who are the 2nd best at high energy press after City.

But no point continuing to go round in circles. If Stones ends up having to play 5 or 6 games in a row I'm sure he'll jog your memory and we'll all be happy.

More chance of the rags finishing top 4 than Stones playing 6 on the bounce for City .

He'll want to prove his fitness to Southgate. No niggling injuries for John until after Xmas that's for sure

If we continue to play as we did against Newcastle, we will continue to leak goals, regardless of who plays in defense.
We played with five forwards, one defensive midfielder, and four defenders.
De Bruyne and Gundo were effectively playing as forwards when we had possession.
Great when we have possession, going forward and creating chances.
Fcuked when we lose possession because there is acres of space to attack and only five players to cover it.
We are going to keep giving up chances and pay the price unless we change it.
In its own way, it is as bad as Liverpool's high line.

I am not confident about the Palace game if we play with that formation.
They have pace and will exploit that if our attacks break down and they win back possession.

Maybe the Newcastle match was a once off but we leaked three goals due to our formation imo.
If we start leaking goals, it will be down to Lillo's departure with nobody else able to rein Pep in.

Zaha is a lazy show pony and doesn’t press or doesn’t think he needs to press but he has pace and is lethal in certain situations. Palace always set up to play on the counter against us and always cause us problems for one reason or another. All about the 3 points we don’t have to be perfect yet this early in the season .

It didn't work out on the day. If Haaland had hit the net not the post we would've won, no question - Newcastle were shagged out on 60 minutes.. If there hadn't been so many injuries and delays at the end, we would've won. Saint-Maximum, when not injured and properly coached, is a beast of a player and will cause trouble for many. It exposed our inverted right back, but if we'd got the run of the ball and won no-one would be panicking.
