IMO opinion we have become box office since Haaland joined. He is a young global superstar who appeals to younger people.
If we win trophies with him on board doing the business, the younger fans will support us ahead of MU and Liverpool.
Our global fan base then starts to make big inroads into MU and Liverpool. Our revenue streams keep rising. We start getting VAR decisions
Pre Haaland we were an excellent team, with excellent players but with no global superstars.
Worth watching but not following and spending money on subscriptions, merchandise, day trips, etc... for most of the football global fan base.
It is not every 'old' fan's cup of tea, none of the new fan base will have watched City play Bristol Rovers, York, Millwall.......
But if you want to play football at the top of the table, then this is what you have to do.
As an aside, it is a really tough gig to stay at the top table, even when you are doing a good job.
Liverpool have been in three of the last five CL finals and benefited from the huge revenues that go with it and their huge global fan base.
Despite the revenues the spine of that team is now the wrong side of 30: VVD, Matip, Thiago, Henderson, Milner, Salah, Firmino and (Mane - cashed in).
They are trying to replace them but it is a work in progress with no guarantees - Jota, Diaz, Nunez, Ramsey, Carvalho.....(I am unconvinced)
Even if most of those players work out, they will still need to buy and are unable to compete with Chelsea, MU, Arsenal, RM, Barca....
As fans I think we are very lucky and I enjoy this phase as it to will pass (despite the whinging I do about our squad size)
