To be fair, there’s been a lot of praise for Foden’s contribution the other night. I particularly liked this piece (from a somewhat unlikely source perhaps). Worth reading some of the comments too for reassurance that Phil is not just appreciated by City fans.

To be fair, Henderson and Rashford have got more praise than Phil.
To be fair, if Phil played for MU or Liverpool, and the other two played for us (God forbid), would the headlines have been different?

Well, to be fair, what you say may well be true but it’s a far wider issue than the one that my post related to. We know the audience most of the press plays to most of the time. I don’t like it any more than you or any other City fan does but I’ve learned to live with it by largely ignoring it and enjoying the praise our club and players get when it (very occasionally) comes along.

That approach makes sense to me.
Certainly better than mine which raises my blood pressure over stuff I have no control over.

TBH I suspect I’m a bit more relaxed than many (though possibly not all) who post on here. Today’s press reportage is governed by financial considerations and the need to produce headlines that generate ‘clicks’ (not just relating to football, of course). This is an anathema to me, but I see and (reluctantly) accept the logic. The positive side of this is that I don’t pay too much attention to the ludicrous over-hyping of the achievements of rival teams and their players. As I’ve found, though, there are quite a few positive views of City and our achievements in the media and I tend to focus on those that present a positive view of our club. A good example of this (further to Liew’s piece on Phil) is:

They all carefully disassociate their praise of our players from the club itself whose owners they seek to destroy.
Abolition of Christianity ? Not a very liberal idea but must I have missed those articles - can you ref please?Mase wrote:johnny crossan wrote:They take some finding these positive pieces, particularly in the Guardian ! Ah that makes sense then. Over the last week they’ve published some nonsense pieces about Christianity - attacking it and pushing for it to be abolished in the UK.
Makes total sense when you realise what time of year it is.

In my salad days it was fashionable to be an atheist and the inveterate variety like Dawkins later came to have celebrity status - all good stuff and intelligent debate was often stimulated as a result. Now both atheism and theism are a bridge too far for a large percent of under 40s - basically religion doesn't resonate at all with most younger people. The wonders of the internet appear to satisfy their appetite for answers to the 'big questions' by providing other things to think about. Hope it doesn't get switched offMase wrote:They seem to have a hard-on for Christianity at the moment -johnny crossan wrote:Abolition of Christianity ? Maybe Christianity is the new Man City? Zero positive articles and loads to try and shit on it.

Absolutely agree. The younger generation would rather worship a celebrity on a Sunday morning by watching that celebrities Instagram Reels for hours.
