Things I’ll never feel again.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Things I’ll never feel again.

Postby Pretty Boy Lee » Sun Apr 13, 2025 7:04 am

We have been spoiled rotten for the last 15 years and I can’t help but think, as KDB leaves, that the best of it may be being us.

Now I don’t think we’re doomed or anything like that, but will any of these things be beaten in our lifetime?

- biggest relief ever when we got he money off our backs and won the cup in 2011.

- greatest feeling of my life when we won the league in 2012. The emotion, the manner of victory, who we beat out on the final day. Perfection in a game of football. I don’t think anything can ever top this.

- the best football I’ve ever seen in that Pep side featuring Aguero, Sane, Sterling, Silva and KdB all attacking. A team any Madrid or Barca side would have been happy with. Simply beautiful football, goals galore and a team I don’t think we’ll top.

- the best results we’ll ever see in the treble season. English sides as a general rule cannot dominate domestically and take on the giants of Europe without faltering on one front. See Liverpool this season. The fact we did it beating most of the biggest and best sides home and abroad makes it truly special and I don’t think we’ll beat that.

- a crop of players that is hard to see us replicating. Starting with Tevez and Kompany, Aguero, Silva, All the way to KdB. Only player we’ve signed recently that I see possibly reaching those heights is Haaland.

So which of these things can we beat? Are our best days behind us even if we win more trophies? I lean towards yes, but wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Tracking back is overrated.

Domestically the game is in a mess so I do think it's very possible we go on to dominate again. Liverpool only seem to win the league when we're shite. Arsenal are perennial bottlers and the Arteta process is still ongoing. Everyone else is still miles off. On a European level were way off. It's going to take some rebuild to get us to the level of competing in the UCL as this season's disastrous campaign has shown.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

Nothing lasts forever.

We’ve had a perfect combination of the greatest Manager ever and players that would run through brick walls for the club. We might not see that again for a while.

I think it's going to take a while for all teams to work out how to 'game' the new system, especially in relation to their own domestic leagues. Certainly, having 8 games against different opponents, with the final 2 being almost directly after the winter breaks for many leagues, means teams need to plan carefully how to approach the competition in order to avoid the play off to reach the last 16. I don't think it's that we're off the level in the long term (although some of our results were abysmal), but rather there's going to be a 2-3 season 'glitch' before normal order is restored for most teams.

While I see the benefits of the new format, I think it will become stale pretty quickly from the perspective of European fans (although the old format was mind-numbingly predictable, too). However, for bookies and neutrals on other continents, the appeal will last much longer.

When I saw the title I thought it was a Coming of Age story.

As soon as I saw the title I thought of someone in my past with huge ‘personalities’

Might bang one out now.

Depends how you look at it.

I'm quite jealously preserving the way I felt at certain points in my city journey because there WON'T ever be another feeling like it.

1: After beating the rags in the FA Cup semi in 2012, I decided that day was as good as it would get for Wembley and I never wanted to dilute that memory, so fucked off on holiday for the final and haven't been to a game at Wembley since.

2: After the QPR game. I renewed my season ticket but despite moving away the following January I don't recall that I actually attended another game - and if I never attend another game again I'm happy with that decision, because the feeling of the QPR game can never-ever be topped.

3: Even if we make it, I don't think I'll attend another CL final after Istanbul. The feeling on the day was one more of relief than anything else and the game was torture, but sharing a moment at the end with the mates who had been on the journey from the very bottom - that's a feeling I'll definitely never get again.

I'm happy to leave my place for others to make memories now, as for me everything from those moments on would always be an anticlimax. And others will come behind us and make lots of memories of the great city players and teams of the future.

But you'll always look back on the first greats - just as those before us did with the team of the late 60s, you'll be hard pressed to ever get those feelings back.

If football stops tomorrow, I would be okay with that.

The thing is, City gave me more than I could ever imagine in terms of emotions and glory. But the football I grew up loving is fast fading away, becoming something I can't relate to.

We've certainly seen some fantastic sporting moments in the last decade or so. A great ride as a City fan and we've had a succesion of great footballers in 3 or 4 teams. The ultimate moment for me was the 2012 93.20 victory. pissed and crying and laughing , what a day. The Champions League final made me just as happy, great memories.

I'm sure there will be others in the future for other generations to savour. Will they be as great? Doubtful, but for them they will be enjoyed.

I remember vividly thinking “thank God that’s over now” as soon as the final whistle went in that CL final.

Winning it was something I’d never have dreamed of and for me it’s done now. If we win it again, great. If we don’t, I couldn’t care less.

Yeah I found the whole thing entirely unenjoyable, not least the 4 hour journey to the stadium from our hotel.

It had been built up for so long, not by City fans but by everyone else, that it just felt like a tick in the box at the end - but despite being underwhelmed and a bit of a shit experience, emotionally when that whistle went it was the pinnacle - so I have no wish to do it again.

Been spoiled!
