This off the Beeb -:

Earlier this week French football journalist Djibril Diop spoke to BBC Radio Manchester about the now-confirmed 100m euro fee that Manchester City are set to pay for Ayyoub Bouaddi:
"Ayyoub Bouaddi had one dazzling game against Brazil in the 2026 World Cup. After that, he faded a little bit," he said.
"That's where I'm a bit cautious about how good he is right now. There's no doubt how good he will be in the future. Manchester City are paying for the potential. They are not paying for how good he is right now.
"His playing style would fit everywhere because he is a press-resistant midfielder. Once you have that durability, you can play anywhere and everywhere.
"He is suited to the Premier League, but he probably would be more suited to the Spanish league because of possession and how he operates in midfield.
"I still think he can make an impact at Manchester City, but I don't think he is going to make an immediate [one] like people think."

I hope we haven't signed him based on one world cup game. El Hadj Diouf anyone aka The Spitter? He was unbeatable at the world cup

Wtf is a 'press resistant midfielder'? :D

From what I have heard, he is more than a one hit wonder. Looks like he could be a very good signing, but he's still 18!

To be fair Bouaddi was the best player on the pitch in several WC games

Made his senior debut for Lille 3 days after turning 16 with 63 appearances, highly rated apparently and was on radars before the World cup.

They are saying he is a generational talent in his position.
Bet he can't wait to play alongside Kovacic.

You dont spend that dosh to stick him on the bench.
Eventually it looks like it will be him, anderson, cherki, doku, semenyo, and haaland. That's not a bad front 6.

I would keep jack, kova, foden and gonzalez as squad players, but sadly it looks we want shot of nico G, and i dont get that one at all. Why we would sell him and keep lewis is mind boggling.

We have treated Nico badly IMO - he has an excellent attitude and we have treated him like a spare part - only needed when everyone else is injured.

He’s one player I hope excels at his next club and the hierarchy regrets selling him.

This kid is tipped to play as a no.6 but if we let Nico G go, we won't have the cover if Anderson or the new kid get injured. We should be keeping Nico G unless we are bringing in further cover.

Are you being serious? All the so called big European clubs were after him; Rags, Arsenal, Real, Paris etc.... They're fucking jealous because we got there first and all of a sudden he aint worth the money bah blah...We were monitoring him before the world cup. He has more experience than you think. Besides, he's only 18, has the potential to be up there if we are patient with his development. We dont need a 29 year old codger if we're going through a rebuild. Nothing is granted in life, but this is a sound investment that has my full backing.

P.s most players from the French league tend to adapt well in the Premier league as far as I know

Yes mate, very serious

At 18 he is still growing and a serious injury at that age can derail a career. Totally agree about buying aging players. But I’d prefer someone around 21/22/23.

We are paying for potential and it’s a high price for me

We don't seem to have got it too wrong over the years when it comes to paying for potential, even if they didn't work out as 1st team players.....can't remember any off the top of my head that we've lost money on.

The game city are playing needs to be looked at as a masterclass in investment.

Khaldoon said something in an interview a year or two back about the reality that the transfer market is escalating at such a pace, buying young talent with 1st team experience in any half decent league and selling after 2-3 years isn't really a risk any more - it's an investment that makes total sense, as we've just seen with Savinho.

Buying an 18 year old perceived to be a generational talent with 2 years top flight experience in a decent league, is pretty low risk in the big scheme of things. On a 5 year contract, the fee amortises down at 20 million quid a year, and at the end of the 3rd year you either have an asset that's vastly increased in price, or at worst would be sold at the same he was bought for, generating a technical profit in the books of 40 million quid.

Sadly, the business of football being as it is, I'd be surprised if we don't see City do more of this in the next year, now they have a massive war chest in the next 3 financial years from these sales.

So far, we've not got any big bets on these T1 kids wrong to my recollection over the last 10 years - of the two highest profile, one chose to move on (Alvarez) or not made the grade (Savinho), but across those two players alone was 100m+ of pure profit.

Very excited about this one. His poise, skill, and decision making in the middle of the field at 18 years old was jaw dropping during the world cup. Know it's just a few games, but there are very few times when you're watching a game and think "wait that was incredible, who the fuck is that"

Is it just me, but it seems whenever we sign a teenager, he goes off on loan, never to be seen again.

I have to admit I never watched much world cup and didn't see him play.

Me neither but I have heard that we should be referencing his Lille performances where he sits deeper as a no.6 rather than a no.8 where he plays for country. Looking forward to seeing him play, we've not spent this amount of cash for him to be a bit part player albeit he will need the proverbial time to adapt.
