Time to deliver says boss

Postby Mark (Blue Army) » Thu Jul 08, 2010 5:40 pm

Roberto Mancini has sounded the rallying cry for City's chase for honours as he prepares his squad for the club's most vital season in years.

The Blues boss is determined to improve on last season's fifth-place finish by his Carling Cup semi-finalists and has his eye fixed on bringing home some silverware.

Mancini has already landed three World Cup finals players this summer in Hamburg's Jerome Boateng, Barcelona star Yaya Toure and Valencia midfielder David Silva.

He admitted: "Excited? Yes I am, even before I see where we finish in the transfer market and which players come here, I think it will be a good season for us. I think we have a squad for success, and our supporters deserve this.

"Last year we did have a good season -
we didn't get to the Champions
League, but we still had a good
season. Now it is time that some
trophies came to this club"

City have again taken the lead in strengthening a squad that will contest the Europa League after just missing out in May on the main prize of the Champions League.

Mancini said: "Up to now we have got Boateng, Yaya Toure and David Silva, all three of them good players. Silva and Boateng are very young, a good investment for the club.

"And Yaya has fantastic experience with Barcelona, where he won a lot of trophies."

With a title bid in his sights, he added: "We need to have the players if we want to reduce the gap with the other teams. We need to bring in players with good quality."

David Platt has also joined as first-team coach. Roberto said: "David played with me at Sampdoria for two years. He was captain of the national team and manager of the Under-21s. He will be important to us this year.

"If we want to start to win trophies, if we want to start a new era at City, then it is important to improve the team and to improve the staff."

Damn Right! City will hopefully get the place in the top four that we have deserved for years and brush the rags out of the equation too!

That we have deserved for years? We haven't been close since I was a toddler. I do fancy us finishing above the rags though.
