I doubt the FA even knows them. it all seems to be very ad hoc.

I think.

Where are you getting that from re Balotelli etc? We were discussing it on another thread earlier & could find no such ruling amongst the available info we'd seen . All we could find was that 'unlimited U21's' could be added. No mention of nationality etc.

I've written to the PL about this. No reply yet. I haven't given up hope

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would be very grateful if you could answer this question.

If my team signs an under 21 year old player from a foreign club, would he be eligible to play in the Premier League as a B squad member or would he have to be part of the 17 non-home grown players in the 25 man A Squad?

Also would an U21 player who has been at the club for less than three season be eligible for the B list?

Specifically I am interested in the situation if Mario Balotelli signs for Manchester City and also that of John Guidetti who has been at the club as an Academy player for less than 3 years. The Europa League regs make it clear that Balotelli would not be eligible for the B list for their competition but Guidetti would.

I thought that the Premier League based their regulations on the UEFA ones except for the club trained component of locally trained players but I can't seem to find a clear answer to this question on your excellent site.

Hope you can help.

Yours sincerely,

Roberto

well who are likes of Boyata, Weiss and Guidetti 'grown' by then if not us? And where would you draw the line? What about immigrants who have been brought to Britain at young age?

If they truly want to help the England team, 'home grown' should mean players who qualify to play for England, so players born abroad but schooled & trained here either choose to go through qualification for England or are treated as overseas players.

Home Grown to me means players brought through in their national country or players who have had residence in their respective country prior to starting out on their footballing tutorledge (ie. unearthed and trained in that relevant country). But definately not brought over from another country specifically because they have a talent such as the players you mention.

One thing I'd like to know is

the 25 man squad needs to be announced by September 1st

can we play anyone we want in the games before then?

Yes.

I think so.
