Another Silva thread. (His defensive side)

About last night. I know he didn't have his best game on the ball as space was tight but I have to say I was delighted with how hard he worked and how much he got stuck in. Unlike alot of imports, especially little flair players, he seems to love the physicality of the premiership and doesn't mind being kicked. He's adapted quickly, doesn't moan or whinge about being fouled (something Mario should pay attention to). Just dusts himself down, gets stuck in and lets his skills do the talking when he can.

I thought he did alright yesterday but like you say not fantastic. However Nigel Cleghorn on the radio was really critical of him last night suggesting he didnt put the effort in when we were not in possession of the ball which I found quite strange. He seems to work hard to me

When he first joined i thought he was going to be one of them players like Robinho. Not tackling etc. But he actually tackles and gave away a few free kicks. Does remind me of Fabregas minus the reckless challenges.

He will learn those in time. He still needs to get used to the premier league ;-)

I am only pro Silva - those this is not meant negatively - but for the purpose of balance I think he let himself down last night on defensive duties

On many occasions I was shouting at him to put a tackle in - he would track back (to some degree) and he would shadow - but not actually put the tackle in

But I am sure he will improve in this area - and my shouting at him was nothing compared to my desire to see a bit more effort from Ya Ya - I was so expecting a big show for him last night!!

Thank the fuck for Nigel - hopefully now everyone can see how important he is to our team - no matter the formation - no matter the opposition IMO - one of the first on the team sheet unless being rested deliberately for some major game
