lovely little player who broke my heart with his antics, but even more so with his lack of effort and passion on the pitch.
I actually miss Elano more than I miss Robinho, and I can't help thinking that Elano had even bigger potential of becoming a top class premier league player. Too bad he - just like Robinho - wouldn't buckle down and really fight for it.

Not sure why we seem to hate ex players so much.

For people like Barton, Petrov, Distin et al. where they have slagged off the club when leaving, or tried to extort money from the club, It's perfectly understandable.
For Robinho, he stayed quiet when he left, until now when he's come out, admitted he wasn't able to adapt to the English game, has given praise to the fans, talked about mutual respect with the manager and the reason he wanted to leave (as selfish as it is).

Yes maybe he could have tried harder to adapt, maybe he wasn't as good as he and everyone else believed and after the initial half season where he had the unknown factor and defendeers didn't know how to cope with him, he was found out.

He was a superstar at City and we demanded to see him perform brilliantly every week (despite his injuries). We didn't give him the time to adapt. He was 24 when we signed him, same age as Silva is now, I know, but Silva is a more complete and mature player.

I respect the fact he isn't slagging us off, like so many others have done. He had his reasons for wanting to leave, and has now said why he didn't make it in the english game.
I do wish things had turned out better and he was able to adapt, unfortunately that wasn't the case.

Thanks for the memories, I'll never forget the deadline day excitement and the buzz from when we first signed him, as has been stated previously, it was a statement of intent from the club. Good luck to you in the rest of your career, hope it goes well*.

*Just don't score a goal that knocks us out of Europe at any point in your career

I agree, I think Elano was a better player all round and more of a team player. Had the potential to be one of the wolrds best with his passing abilaity and vision.
When on form, he was / is better at picking out a player and delivering a ball than Beckham ever was, and this guy built his career on it. Elano could aslo dribble and take on players. Had amazing vision. Just didn't apply himself enough and too easily disappered in games.

It must be irksome for you after three years of untroubled supremacy but the "johnny" bit gives it away I think!

Fair play to him for what he said. Nothing bad or wrong at all. First of all he was our first superstar signing and did pave the way for others. Secondly as he said he couldnt adapt to our game. Thats a good interview and he in no way had a go at the club. In fact that interview has won back alot of the respect I lost for Robbie.

here he goes again - doing his stuff for our reputation - anybody cheering him on do I hear? I suppose no Kaka might be considered a blessing by some.

Robinho reveals he talked Kaka out of move to City
By Ian Herbert
Tuesday, 28 December 2010

Ghosts of Christmas past will stalk Manchester City for as long as they fail to lift silverware. One of them is Robinho, who claimed yesterday that while he was a City player he had talked his compatriot Kaka out of signing two years ago.

"I told him what it was like to live in Manchester; that it is cold, it always rains and offers little," the Milan player said. He also said he had had discussions with Mario Balotelli, to whom Milan have made eyes. "I do not think [he will stay long in Manchester]," Robinho said of the 20-year-old.

Maintaining Balotelli's interest beyond his first season may prove challenging if City are not in the Champions League next season, though manager Roberto Mancini can put such concerns to the back of his mind with his side comfortably within the top four ahead of Aston Villa's arrival this afternoon. Balotelli may feature from the start.

The match could give City a chance to resolve their patchy home form. "We have found it hard at home because teams have come and sat deep and made it difficult for us," Gareth Barry said yesterday.

Kolo Touré will return from a one-match ban, though may not be recalled as Joleon Lescott performed well against Newcastle on Boxing Day. City know a win would see them, for a few hours at least, leapfrog neighbours United, who have an evening kick-off.

Roberto Mancini's positive comments about Newcastle's Andy Carroll after the 3-1 win were a response to a question, rather than a declaration of his intent to pursue the player. City need to sign a Champions League-calibre striker, which is why Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko is a January target.

Robinho is a clown, I doubt his italian is of such a standard that he can even string a sentence together with Balotelli. I do hope we get Milan next season.

"The weather it was always raining. And the games, there is so much running, everyone is always wanting you to run, following the man back past the halfway line. And everyone is so strong, even the mascots were too strong to get the ball from, so I never tried. And did you know the defenders try and stop you scoring? It's not like Brazil, they don't run away from you inexplicably. Did I mention it rained all the time?"

To be fair to Robinho, he seems to base most of his thoughts of Manchester on a bus journey to the Trafford Centre, which is enough to convince anyone that there are better cities out there.

A very self centred and small minded overview of what he believes he is. Paving the way for big players like him !!!! Kompany was cheap and is certainly a big player. He epitimises evrything I want a city player to be, tough, dedicated, consistant, good communicator, commited to the club......oh all the things that little shite wasn't so how dare he say it was good for city for him to be at the club ?
