Ok who was there?
Seems like a good time to bring this up. I remember driving up to Nottingham with my eldest, then 7, now 23! We got up early and joined in a pubful of blues. As usual there were hordes of us although we were of course pretty shite at the time (but the worst was yet to come). Total attendance was 12,376. There was some sort of army surplus (bullets and stuff) in the land behind the away end, fascinating for a 7 yr-old! The other memorable event was two blues near us having a punch-up during the warm-up (we were directly behind the goal) when one shouted at Dibble that he was crap (understandably) and the other threatened to shoot him for undermining our players. Or rather, he had a mate that would shoot him, apparently!!
I seem to remember we went 2-0 down by half-time but the day was rescued by Sky pundit Peter Beagrie and the much-maligned (and rightly so) David Brightwell - to the shock of all.
A nice 5-2 demolition of County in the replay (Rosler 4, Gaudino 1) was followed by a Coton-inspired lucky 1-0 win over a good Villa side in round 4 at Maine Road, before 'typical City' round 5 disaster struck at St James Park in a live TV game when we were cheated by the ref as I recall. I cant quite remember how, but I'm sure Dibble was heavily involved too.
For those who live in the rose-tinted past, the attendance for the City-County replay at Maine Road was:
14,261
