Late winners

When was the last time we've scored one? The hallmark of a champion team is their ability to drag a result out of the mire. Of late we've been conceding late goals to make games closer than they should, and of course there was the late pen we conceded at Sundreland. Still, we haven't had an exciting late winner for a while. Be nice to have one.

Ireland scored a couple of late equalizers back to back under Sven.

Micah scored one of the best equalizers I can remember at Villa in the FA cup about 5 years back.

Can't remember any late winners in recent memory.

Silva scored in the 90th against Blackpool that turned out to be the winner. (They also scored to make it 3-2)

Johnson scored against Sunderland last season to make it 1-1 in the last minute.

I don't think we settled for that one though, sorry Dazby's post read to me like we'd gone out aiming for/accepting a draw.

We did that at Arsenal and he got it bang on, United and Brum we went out like that and I still consider that dropped points. Stoke, Blackburn and Sunderland games we were attacking and just failed, as every team does from time to time.

The one that stands out the most is Macken v Spurs in THAT FA Cup game.

I remember Anelka v Liverpool, Musampa v Liverpool.... I honestly think it was that era since we scored a late winner when it looked like heading for a draw.

That's fucking unreal - we need to find out because the rags are the fucking kings of late winners and its a major reason why they won so many titles.

I'll probably get jumped on for this but I honestly think that a big part of it, certainly at home, is fans leaving early.

By the 85th minute in most games, regardless of whether it's 1-1, 4-0 or 0-4 the place is half empty and the atmosphere is dead. I can't imagine it's very inspiring for the players to push on for a last minute winner when the fans can't even be arsed sticking around. If we're roaring them on until the final whistle then I am sure we would see an upturn in last minute goals/equalisers/winners.

Think the club need to appeal to fans to stay in their seats.

Now that was some strike! I remember being gutted we could not find the £1m to make his loan move permanent ... it all seems soooooo long ago.

Frankly I'd rather we did not need to rely on last minute winners ala the Rags and put games beyond doubt as early as possible. As I get older my nerves won't stand it as well!!

Because after 85 minutes we settle for a draw. Take United at home for example, we were more than happy to go for a point and didn't attack them. If you ever watch United play, they always throw men forward in the last few minutes irreleveant of the opposition. They attack like their lives depend on it. Even with ten men against Tottenham, they were throwing men forward.

That is the mentality we need to adopt, but sadly we simply coward out of it on numerous occasions.
