Has anyone played football with a footballer's relative?

Postby Tony P » Fri Jan 21, 2011 8:45 pm

I've just started playing 5-a-side with a bunch of lads and one of them is Tomáš Ujfaluši's cousin. Top bunch of lads in general but he is a real ball hog and never goes for a simple pass, preferring to try to score from nearly every angle. Fair do's, sometimes they go in but bloody frustrating.

Has anyone else experienced the same? A family member playing only for themselves?

Yes! I played with Nicky Butt's brother a few times. Though it was that long ago I don't remember if he was any good.

I played with the late Keith Alexanders son, Paul. Lovely left foot and a smashing lad too.

Played with and against Nicky Summerbee many times. He was an absolute arse and a totally average player to say the least and to say he was fortunate to make it in the game would be like saying Jennifer Lopez has a decent trumper.

Also once helped Graham Cowdrey light a firework display - do i get a prize for such a naff claim to fame?

I'm glad I got the right impression of him.

And who the fuck is Tomáš Ujfaluši'?

I used to play 5s with Darren Beckford and his daughter Lauren plays for City, she is also the sister of Danny Webber who plays for Pompy. I also used to play at Liverpool and Wales with Jade Thomas whose father is the cretin, Mickey Thomas.

Iv also played against Natasha Dowie who is the niece of Ian Dowie, I need to add that she luckily did not inherit his looks.

Oh and i was at soccer school with Michael Clegg who went onto play for the rags, the lad was a big blue and i had a great picure of his at the youth games in his maroon City shirt. I saw him shortly after he broke into the rags 1st team and mentioned this picture, he asked that i didnt tell anyone. I passed the picture onto my brothers mate who handed in around some rag pub in AUL as no one belived him when he said he was a blue.

I played with Gary Neville's brother for a year or two. He actually was a reasonably likeable guy back then before he was tainted by United (I believe he still is now by all accounts tbf). Whilst its true he has always had limited football talent, he was just so much bigger and stronger than the rest of us and that made him stand out and got him his big break

Also around the same time played with Nicky Butt's brother who played for Bounday Park. Decent player as far as I can remember.

I played in a team years ago and my best mate played in the same team, and his cousin is Denis Mortimer who played for Villa.

I play rugby with Alfons Groenendijk's cousin. Or used to. He broke his ribs in training, and never came back. Still go for beers with him now and again, though.

A guy in my year at school was the son of Glan Letheren, a goalkeeper for Swansea, but nothing special whatsoever. His brother, Kyle, has 'made it'; he's on his 7th club (6th professional), and only made 1 (non-league) appearance.

Played against Wes Brown's brother Clive. He was absolutely rapid, and pretty skilful too. Wes Brown was in some massive parka which would've better suited a fat eskimo on the sidelines looking bad.

PLayed 5 a side with Arthur Albiston's son. Think his name was Scott. Big lad, big rag, good player though.

And I used to play quite regularly a few years back with my mates and Andy Mitten and his mates. He's the rag that created United We Stand, the rag fanrag. He one of the reddest rags ever, and we made him wear a City shirt once to make the teams have the same colours. Wish I'd have nabbed a photo.
