I'm finally starting to understand why we signed Lescott. In recent weeks he has started to live up to the hype and his price tag.

Long may it continue.

If you were there and seeing things off the ball I wasn't then I deferr to you but from what I saw he played perfectly well all game TBH

Delighted to get basck from the game and see these positive comments about Lescott - he really outstanding and dont let the couple of slips towards the end detract from a great game

I am one of those that think Kolorov will come good - just like Lescott has - but he was poor today

I never used to like him if i'm honest, but just recently he's started to up his game and he's looking like he belongs more, imo he always seemed to look "lost" before, i'm kinda liking what I see with him now, just hope it continues

Like the way he knows his strengths and weaknesses and when he gets the ball he plays the simple ball to someone who can use it better

He was playing well in two different spells last season only to get injured.
Vincent/Lescott has always been my preferred pairing.
But just one question, why do we leave him back on the half way line when he used to be quite prolific for Everton from set pieces?

I think Micah may have answered that question yesterday.

Is two big lads who might score up from the back not allowed?

It was always clear that Lescott was pretty good, he just needed the games and to be injury-free. Awesome in the air defensively.

Shame about all those premature hate threads though. I'm sure they'll be back!

Not always the case though is it? He was there when Micah scored and ran for the near post post cross.

Well if he goes up then Kompany has to stay back; all three of them going up for set pieces is taking a big risk of conceding a counter if the opposition gets hold of the ball.

Lescott has sometimes bizarrely been left in our half at set pieces but it seems now as if someone has told Bob he once got 10 goals in a season from them for Everton, so he mostly goes up for them now & when he's there, other people tend to score more often, even if he doesn't.

The main thing that's changed about Lescott is that people have decided to treat him fairly & aknowledge the good stuff he does as well as the mistakes he makes rather than just LOOKING for mistakes & finding them. He played some good stuff last season when fit but got little credit. All our CB's make mistakes & they have all made just as many as Lescott.

People in the media are still largely on his case though, even the local media. A lot of people have Everton as their 'plucky little media darlings' & resent Lescott and us.

Lescott and Kompany were rocksought yesterday. fitting that a defender, who also had a good game, got the winner. Good to see NDJ back.

Lescott though, has impressed me over the last few weeks. Looks more like the player we thought we'd bought.

Ironically he has perhaps come on with playing two games a week, whereas those players who run 10km plus a game (in sprints!) are suffering a little

I hope those fans who are currently question SWP should look at the impact on Lescott of playing games each week.

If Mancini can be faulted this season, it's for not making better use of squad players. We don't have many, but Jo, Bridge and SWP are decent players. I know some of you don't think so, but look at the team Utd picked against Arsenal. 7 defenders. He gets away with playing players like Obertan and bebe in some games because he can gauge what is required to win. He selects a team just strong enough to beat the opposition

For example we should have sent a weakened team to Kiev, but parked the bus. Instead we were too ambitious, got caught on the break and ran the risk of a replay, or even defeat against Reading

Perhaps Mancini's self-confidence will grow when he doesn't have to fear for his job

I think there's some truth in what you say but Jo was given plenty of time on the pitch & SWP was poor when given a chance. Lescott has got in because he took his chance when it was given.

Been very good the last couple of months now.

If he could score a few goals he might even live up to his pricetag, that fucker has been a lodestone for a while now.

If we put more straightforward set piece balls into the danger area, like we've started to do recently, (rather than tring to whistle every ball in like an exocet & fucking it up) Lescott will get the odd goal & may just get them in big games.
