ATMOSPHERE tonight?

Postby dikdik » Thu Mar 17, 2011 12:01 pm

Apologies for starting a separate thread to the CHICKEN KIEV one but I think my advanced age allows me this eccentricity.
Having read through this thread I am flabbergasted by the number of times people have quoted not going because of a "shit atmosphere"....

If these people went maybe there would be a better atmosphere.

I can understand the financial reasons and work reasons (no excuse for me, just back with my pension...)

BUT

Not going because of the atmosphere?

Crazy.

Some people seem to think that supporting your team is shouting like a fucking lunatic for 90 minutes, making noise, waving your hands about and generally being a knob, which makes them a better supporter than everyone else. Each to their own, some people do it spontaneously, some people do it when the side have their tails up, some people are reserved and choose to behave in a footbal ground how they would in normal society by being polite and applauding when they see something good, or critical when they see something bad.

There are good and bad sides to each of the groups described above, and there certainly isnt a right or wrong way to support your team. But, some people actually go to watch the football, and respond to what they see on the pitch.

There is precious little entertainment on offer these last 15 months, so its a bit of a chicken and egg situation. The players and manager often seem not to give a shit, which has clearly translated to the fans. They are paid, by us, to play football and win games - I shouldnt have to jump around like a fucking lunatic to motivate them to perform - and there is precious little evidence in this squad that it would make a difference anyway.

It should be a Hamburg style atmosphere tonight, but it wont be, because I dont think there is a fan out there that actually thinks we will win the tie.

speak for yourself. and have a look at the predictions thread for starters.

We made them look better than they are in the first leg.. and we have been low key and pretty poor for a few games now..
but if you think that is reason to be pessimistic then fine, but in reality there is just as much chance of us continuing to play poorly as there is to spark into action and turn it on. It is all to play for and we are well capable of winning by more than 2 goals.

I hope im not going to a crowd of about 10 people, or I really will fall out with City fans and believe we have shit fans at COMS. 12,000 season ticket holders failed to turn up for Reading! Yet how many will want Semi tickets?

I sympathise with the ''shit atmosphere'' excuse but that was my excuse last year when I could never get in good seats. Its just not worth going to have 10 stewards and moaners telling you to be quiet or sit down for 90 mins. If I had to sit in my season ticket seat tonight I probably wouldnt go ! Thankfully I've moved over by a few seats so im now ''allowed'' to stand up.

Reading the Points of Blue minutes on Bluemoon highlights the problems of the atmosphere, and I agree with the comments that we may end up with a whole disinterested youth that have watched us with no interest, no atmosphere and would rather play on their Nintendo DS and have a foot long hot dog.

RANT OVER; COME ON CITY!

I don't understand why Hamburg was our best game ever at COMS ( I couldnt even get a ticket) and it might be dead tonight, whats the difference? Should City now slash tickets to Fiver to fill the ground for tonight?

Both posts spot on. I cant afford it, but when I could, I was there every match, even the likes of Mansfield etc in the League Cup where we drove 600 miles there and back to be among 11000 people in the evening.

There is just some underlying 'cant be arsed' attitude, which people hide under 'shit atmosphere'.

I'm on nights and I've woken up with a headache. So I won't be shouting and jumping up and down much.
Thought the atmosphere v Reading was splendid by the way.

It sure was, and apart from a couple of lulls it was by far one of the best as late. Good to see so many stay to see the lads off, and them take time to praise the fans.

Apart from the score, a good night was had. Strangely, I was still in a good mood when I left.

Thinking about it, it does show that you don't need 47,000 to make it, but just a section that want to enjoy the night.

I honestly think Citys best fans were all there tonight, every one should get a ticket for the semi for enduring tonight in the fantastic manner we did and creating a better atmosphere in a half full stadium than the fickle sofa hugging absent cunts, they can fuck off for all I care.

Not that it matters to me because I have easily enough points!!

In my opinion you should go the match because you love city and there is nothing else you'd rather do. If you want to watch on the telly fair play, your choice, but you're missing out. The atmosphere and potential crowd should have fuck all to do with it. Was awesome tonight, bring on chavski

Here here, well done the 27000 - best atmosphere for a long while, everybody played their part. I think the ticketing helped, because many people around me were not in their usual seats so there were little pockets of singers everywhere geeing up everyone.

Been back about about 45mins, just working on getting my voice back! Tonight proves it isn't all about numbers, its quality and quantity. Was a great atmosphere tonight, really impressive, I understand its expensive and some people can't make it for various reasons, thats fine. Personally I wont be missing a game unless I can't avoid it, and I thought everyone there tonight was great!

I was with a load of work colleagues who I took after a meeting this afternoon.

We had 2 city fans who hadnt been for years since moving away from Manchester, and a Carlisle fan living in Manchester City Centre amongst our group, and all said they loved it and would be coming back at the next possible opportunity. I actually caught the Carlisle fan joining in the singing - good on him

Less said about the mune the better, but even he was sympathetic to the cheating that was going on

Me and my son sat next to two guys from Bristol (with pucker west country accents!) who had been fans for thirty years. They had driven up in the morning and were going back afterwards.
