the shortlist should be wenger, mourinho, hiddink, boas.

We have too many fancy Dan, big 'I am' players to give an untried manager a go. They will all assume they know better & he would be doomed from the start. If we were to fire Bob, it would have to be a 'name' replacement.

Owen Coyle anyone?

Might not be a popular choice but Davy Moyles looks like he has ran his course at Everton.

Seriously? What the hell has Mick McCarthy done as a manager that proves he would be capable of being in charge of an ambitious club like ours?

I don't see why we have to pick a manager who has already made a name for himself. Choose someone who is hungry for success and wants to make City what his career will be known for. Fuck what he has achieved in the past, its about what he will achieve in the future. Doesn't have to be Mick, but make it someone who isn't just collecting a paycheck. It has to mean more than money for the coach if it ever will for the players. Just because you have the money doesn't make it right to always spend it

What did baconface, Guardiola, or Wenger achieve before their current clubs?

Try looking on wikipedia for baconface, as he doesn't really fit in that list.

City fans will moan about Mourinho.
The only difference is he gets results. The general style of football is the same, ie, boring.
But at least it'll be boring with a few cups, so fuck it.

My only concern regarding a new manager is that we wouldn't get Jose. Mancini had a reasonable domestic record but can't cut it in the premier league. Same for the likes of Ramos and Scholari. Therefore a new manager who hasn't had premier league experience before is a big risk and one I'm not sure the owners will take again.

We could look at a manager currently in the premier league, but there's no one with a record of winning who would come/we'd want. That would mean taking a punt on someone young who hasn't had success yet e.g. Coyle. There's no guarantee he could step up to the plate, which was always the risk with Hughes. Getting a mid-table team into the top 6 is easier than getting a top 6 team into the top 4. Again, for a team needing success in the short term, I don't see this as a risk the owners will take.

To remove the risk, ideally you want a manager who has proven ability in the premier league i.e. top 4 and has won something (league/FA Cup). He should also have european experience, either through a premier league team or previous management. That should be competing in the later rounds of the Europa/Champions League not just managing in a foreign league where it's hard to benchmark the success.

Three names spring to mind - Jose obviously; Hiddink, although his time in England was brief. And, most worryingly, Benitez. Think about it - he's won stuff abroad, won stuff here, won a champions league with liverpool, although god knows how and he's available, just like Mancini was, meaning no need to drag out the appointment whilst dealing with other clubs. From an owner's point of view, he'd have to be on any shortlist.

id actually trust harry with the cash. its not often he has got it majorly worng with spurs. he's made some superb signings for decent money. modric, VDV spring to mind. and he does what every city fan wants, he goes for the win every single time, playing top football while they are at it.

Mourinho lost to Barca earlier this season 5-0. So he is human after all !

I think Mancini will stay, simply because I think we will finish in the top 4 but if for any reason he were to go, then of course Mourinho would be my first choice but I don't see him leaving RM just yet.
So plan B: I would prefer a manager with PL experience and my first choice would be Harry Redknapp as he has worked wonders at Spurs since he took over but like Jose, I don't see him leaving Spurs soon.
Coyle can be a good gamble. I don't think he can do worse than Bob and MH with the players and resources that we have.
If Wenger can be tempted to work with adults for a change, then that would be a great replacement for Bob. Again I don't see that happening.
So looking abroad, Louis van Gaal is now free. I think he is a good shout. Loads of experience and winning mentality.
Sentimentally, I would love to see KK back but that's a long shot !

I recon Harry would be much more fun than Bob short term but fail to compete with Ferguson etc end up being fired just the same. If you were to ask me what I'd prefer to be watching, it would be Harry's brand of football rather than Bob's. I don't think he's anything special though, it's just that he doesn't give a fuck & does what he likes.

I hate him though.

There's no way Twitcher would come to us - not for any amount of money IMO. He's far too cosy living on the South Coast enjoying his mansion by the beach - life in Manchester wouldn't cut it for him.

As disappointing as Mancini has been at times this season, people must remember it's his 1st season in the Prem and considering this he's done better than previous City managers with years of Prem experience. I'm sick and tired of getting a new manager every 18 months. If Mancini gets us top 4 we should stick with him for next season imo ... he might throw the shackles off then as this season he seems scared to fail at all costs hence the predominantly defensive line ups. If he does go, Wenger would be pointless. Not only does he not approve of our current buying/spending strategy, he's clearly peaked now. Maureen, as we know would be here for 3 years tops. As our average for managers seem to be 18months, this clearly is not a reason to dismiss his appointment.

I'd give it to Platt ....

I'm all for stability but that would be my one & only reason for keeping Bob & mainly stability of staff rather than him, as he's not stable. I don't really look at the finishing position or the possibilities of a trophy anymore, what happens will happen, last night proved it for me. I'm just looking at what he's done & is doing & whether he's done anything to deserve his job & what he'll do next. Fourth, cup, whatever, it counts for nothing in my evaluation anymore.

I've watched & waited to see a master plan in action: he hasn't fucking got one. He's swapping players around to see what will happen & hoping to stumble upon it. We're no closer to a settled first 11 than we were when he came, in fact we were closer then. He's signed players without a plan of where they'll play or in what formation, just hoping he can fit them in.

I recon he had a plan, tried to execute it, realised it wasn't going to work in the Prem & has been winging it ever since hoping to find a way through. He may succeed but it's not a masterplan, it's adaptation.

I agree that he may change totally & be ultra adventurous next season because I don't think he's got any preconceptions. He could be anything next season from Allardyce to Pep Guardiola. He could turn out to be a wonderful adventurous, successful manager but he'll be more or less starting from scratch as, apart from the individual talent we have, he's built fuck all; no team. The only team parts that work are the ones Hughes built, plus Silva & occasionally Toure.

By the same score we would lose nothing by sacking him as he's built nothing.

Yer man's mam was from Cheadle.

Villas-Boas' paternal grandmother, deceased in 2007, was English (with the exception of a Portuguese great-great-grandmother), though born in Porto, Lordelo do Ouro, whose father's family was already established in Portugal, and whose mother moved from her native Cheadle, Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, to Guimarães in the early 1900s. As a result, Villas-Boas speaks 'flawless English'.[3] He has been married since 2004 to Joana Teixeira, and has two daughters.[11]
