Training Wednesday 20/4

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:19 pm

First day back and it's sun tan weather. Almost too hot to get there and watch but not quite and for a change it was nice to get wet by the sprinklers.17 players on show today ,the missing ones being Micah,Jerome,Carlos,MJ. Zaba took part in the early stuff but not the game at the end.The last I saw of him was when pictures were being taken of his damaged leg which may well appear on the OS. A scum fan turned up late bizzarely and said he was surprised Zaba had finished the match after Scholes cynical savage "tackle" I said City fans weren't surprised at all because he is Zaba!

Just gentle jogging and warm up stuff before a series of runs to stretch the legs and stamina and then onto the game which was 9 a side.It was certainly an entertaining game too.One side racing into a 4 nil lead with goals from Mario,Barry( a right foot volley),Mario again with a tap in and then another volley this time by SWP. Milner was not happy that goals were going in so easily and the biggest surprise was that it was against a team including Vinnie and Nigel!

The other team started to get back into it and goals from Milner,Kolo and then Jo made the game close. Jo's goal caused a problem too as Joe Hart immediately had to leave the game signalling his back wasn't right again. The keeper coach took his place. Boyata also left the field but that was a hand injury and he soon came back. Lombardo had subbed for him.

The best moment of the game was a sublime shot from Nigel from the left corner of the box which curled perfectly into the top corner. It was magnificent but just as the celebrations started they noticed he had been ruled offside! ( correctly i think as he was coming back to the pass) Nigel went ape at Lombardo who at the time was reffing and gave the decision. His anger carried on for a while.

Then Silva broke to a one on one situation and passed to somebody to tap it in. Nigel again went mental ,along with Vinnie, that it was offside. So much noise and anger. The offside had been given but it took a while for the screaming defenders to realise and it really showed even in this training session how much it mattered.

Next Nigel was again in the final third and got brought down by either of Lescott or Boyata as they were both at him. His collapse was dramatic to say the least. He was either faking it or badly injured.I know what it looked like and he was soon up with a smile and bemoaning the fact that a penalty hadn't been given as it was in the box.To be honest I am not sure what the score was in the end but it had been fun to watch.I would say 4.4 but Nigel's team might have sneaked it when I was talking to the red.

Shame I can't do training now till Sunday.

The hero's return ;-)

Cheers Doug, that was an excellent read and it sounded like you really enjoyed the session. Well-in pal.

He is finished at Rangers with a cracked bone in his foot or something isn't he.But he won't be with City really until next season and even that that assumes Mancini wants him around.

Correct I did enjoy it.At least the football game at the end as it was quite a strong session with feelings running quite high at times.

I was immediately impressed with him when arrived at Carrington based on his touch and shooting ability. That impression has been tainted by his performances on the field although balanced by the goals he has scored. His level of performance is still for me a concern. He seems to like to drift around in games and then just explode and he is like that in training as well. The trouble is in the premiership it isn't that easy to do that and to be honest I don't think he is actually that good to be able to do that.

He scored some goals quite early but really they were mostly against minnows and latterly I think he has been awful and at times a liability to the team and I am not just talking about when he got sent off.Has he turned a corner now ,who knows but I hope so.

The hype around him from some City fans I think is ludicrous and seems as much based on his off field antics as anything else but I couldn't be less interested in that. All I want is effort and quality on the pitch. I was pleased that he woke up on Saturday after a dozy start ( as the team did) and put in a decent performance although he missed out on the best two opportunities that came his way. Some said he was fantastic against the scum but that's just the nonsense hype again.

But if he carries on trying/playing like he did in the last 60 minutes against the scum then I will start to warm to him. 6 matches to go and he needs some consistency and afew goals.

He did look like a proper Prem Lg striker & a City player v the scum, rather than a foreign tourist having a kick around on his way to the bus station.

Can't argue with that Doug!

Just hope he and his mentor are around next term to show some consistency. It's in everyone's interests cos it will mean we've had a good end to our season.

There's still time for things to go Pete Tong again :(

There is also plenty of time for things to get even better too.
