Honda cools Prem links
Japanese star would prefer Spain switch

Keisuke Honda has played down rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool or Manchester City, claiming he is happy at CSKA Moscow.

Premier League pair Liverpool and City are both thought to be keen on signing highly-rated winger Honda this summer.

The 25-year-old insists he is content to stay at CSKA if he receives no offers and that if he was to leave Russia he would prefer a switch to Spain.

"CSKA are playing Champions League football next season so staying is not a bad option," Honda told Sankei Sports.

"However, I do want to test myself at a higher level if the opportunity arises. My preference is still to play Spain."

Hopefully no more puns now.

I wonder which motor mouth leaked the story about us being interested in him? I certainly hope we exhaust all our negotiation options before walking away, we can drive a hard bargain when we want to.

I thought Brazilian players only go to Russia, as that allows them to get a European permit, hence Vagner Love, Jo, Welliton, etc.

Anyway, this topic is running out of petrol.

Russia don't belong to EU so they will not get any spesific work permit because of that. Technically only about one third of Russia is in Europe anyway.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Well, it has something to do with it, probably due to the fact that Russia are easier on the borders for Brazillian players than we are. Here Brazilian players need a work permit and in Russia, they might not. Also, Russia's league is better than Brazil's, as is Ukraine's and gets them exposure in the Champions League, i.e. Shakhtar Donetsk with Douglas Costa and Dentinho, which in return gives them greater chances of getting in the Brazilian team, thus easier to get a work permit in European nations.

I remember Gary O'Connor over there and reading in the book about Russian football, Football Dynamo, what he got up to over there! He was on some daft money blowing on hookers and coke!

Aiden McGeady went to Spartak. I'd forgotten about that. No idea how he's done.
