One of those appointments that never crossed my mind but kind of makes sense now. It's almost like Abramovich saying "soz Jose, I might've been wrong sacking you". I'm sure that's closest thing to apology you are ever going to get from Russian oligarch.

Villas Boas is similar nutter to Jose but also seems to share his brain for football tactics. I predict he'll do well.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

He could do very well but if it was the other way around & we were the 'old guard' with a new, big, powerful club breathing down our necks as City are doing to them, I don't think we'd feel comfortable choosing that moment to find out whether a young manager can hack it in the Prem or not. If he fucks up (which I hope he does) it could put Chelsea way behind us for years to come. If Hiddink was going there I'd be confident they'd give us a right battle all season. This bloke may do, but he may just as easily crack up under pressure.

I wasn't really saying that he's ideal appointment for them but it seems that Villas Boas is the best they can do right now especially if they have been unsuccesfull in their hunt for Hiddink.

May this also serve as a remainder to all of us that it's easy to say sack this manager and sack that manager when things aren't going well but you also have to look what is in offer out there. World class managers don't grow on trees.

I'd got Chelsea down as favourites to patch things up get Mourinho back when he eventually leaves Madrid. I can't see him going directly to the rags as he's too smart to follow Ferguson (he'd be in a no win situation), I'm sure the Sheikh would have been very tempted to bring him here but Bob finished the season off so strongly that he's looking good to do well next season & therefore stay in the job. If Chelsea appointed Hiddink, they could just move him over for Jose when the time came. This appointment would be for a longer term unless the bloke fails.

It'll be fascinating to see if he can gain the respect of the players, being as young as he is. I have no doubt he's got the tactical nous to be a success but will he be able to manage the egos?

One thing i have heard from this move and that ive found quite refreshing, is how Porto have dealt with this and how they seem to contract thier players. Seems that they all seem to have release fees on thier contracts and Porto take the stance of no negotiations, give us the money in the release clause and you can talk to the player - seems to simple to be true!

I just find it funny how certain it was that Hiddink was going to be the Chelsea manager.
