CityFanFromRome will know best.

Cerci wasn't able to break into the Roma squad for years, then (surprisingly) moved to Fiorentina where he apparently had a decent 20-or-so game season.

Basically, like Goaters said before, we're signing the Italian Jermaine Pennant. Or David Bentley with crappy hair.

I know title winning squads have players like Kalou, Park, etc, etc, but is Cerci close to their level? I'd rather us keep Weiss and/or SWP (even Bellamy) from what I know. Seb Larsson was available on a free.

If he signs, I'll get over it and hope he's great for us. Just seems underwhelming to buy a squad player for the sake of it. $5 says we're bluffing and still in for Sanchez.

like so often before, I agree with your post.

One thing that worries me is that I must've seen him couple of times in telly last season but honestly I have no recollection of this lad from there. I only vaguely remember hearing his name in highlight shows but certainly nothing amazing there either. I'm sure we have great scouts and all but something tells me this has something to do with Sanchez deal.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I've not seen him play before so I'm not going to moan about this signing (if it goes through). If we do sign him, the manager and coaches obviously believe he can do a good job.

Although I still believe N'Zogbia could do a great job for us, particularly as he has been playing in the Prem for years now, and is still young. His fee wouldn't be too bad either.

As we all know only too well Youtube usually makes a player look twice as good as he really is, from a quick trawl of the toob I would say Cerci looks about as good as AJ on there, therefor I'm not excited by the prospect. Are we just buying a slightly worse replacement for SWP but doesn't mind sitting on the bench?

The fact that we are two pages in and there is no crappy YouTube stills/video clip with a dodgy ride of the valkiries sound track does not bode well

Exactly mate. Cerci's only started 20 something games in Serie A and he's 24. I'm all for signing squad players but they should at least be an upgrade on the ones who aren't getting a game right now.

I'd really like us to sign N'Zobgia to 'create depth' i dont like signing unknown easy to sign Italian players once bitten twice shy and all that.

Suppose if we were looking for a winger to use as a squad player we could have just gone for Bentley himself. He puts a decent ball in to the box and Dzeko might get a few then.

Bentley has fucked up royally imo, he had it all at his feet. One of the best in the world at delivering a ball, nailed on for an England place; got too big for his boots & that was that. His ridiculous peacock style hairdo when he played in the England kids teams always gave a clue that he may have a touch of the future twat about him though.

If Cerci is only left footed, well then we have a little problem. Three out of four attacking/winger midfilders that we have are left footed, and the only one that is a righty is SWP, who will most certain go. It will be a complete mess without a player a right foot player up front, but maybe Bob knows what he is doing.
I know he played last season when Mutu was suspended, but then he became again a substitute, nothing more.

Hope this isn't a Gai Assulin type of deal.

Even Harry said that he thought he was David Beckham, having everyone refer to him as DB and trying to get the number 7 shirt. He must be arrogant for Harry to slate him in public

A Gai Assulin type deal? Assulin is a youngster that we got on a free, despite interest from lots of major clubs, who is trying to prove himself after being unfortunate with injuries when he was just about to break through in the best team in the world. How you can slate the Assulin deal is beyond me. Completely risk free and still potentially worth millions...put it this way - Assulin has just as much, if not more, natural talent than Taarabt and others like Henderson who are touted for millions of pounds. When he's injury free, he'll be a great signing and a fantastic impact sub at least....if he doesn't - well he cost us nothing :)

Also - Balo plays out wide for us and he's right footed.

Not the only DB from among his own players that Ballsackface has slated in public. For all the praise that he gets in the press, how Spurs could do with Bent now.
