Kolarov has a cross in him.

The reason we don't use/need wingers is because kolarov/richards are meant to be getting forward and delivering the ball
not get forward then cut inside and try scoring or in micah's case try running people over.

Mancini saying he wants another winger makes me think he might be planning on changing the system.

That's the impression that I have. We did fine against Inter without any wingers for 70 minutes or so. We also have Clichy who can cross the ball and if really needed Kolarov can play in front of him on the LW. I think he will do well there without the burden of full time defending. He can get into good shooting positions and we know he can score from long distances.
With AJ and Vlad, the RW is covered, so probably Sweep will not have a place although he's done well in last few matches and I for one would like to see him stay. However Mancio might have other ideas ?

To win the league i dont think our options of AJ and vlad would be good enough, id rather AJ and SWP unless we sign top class midfileder like nasri who can play there or central. I know silva and balotelli can do a job on the right but im not convinced either are at there best there.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This stuff about us not having a decent crosser of the ball is a bit wrong I think.
For one thing every time there is a corner the ball is crossed in.
If one was to read the match report from someone like say ESPN,the word cross comes up regurlarly:

GOAL Wonderful goal from Barry. Johnson slid the ball to Milner, who crossed and Barry was there to stab it home
Premier League
September 11, 2010
Goal! Manchester City 1, Blackburn Rovers 1. Patrick Vieira (Manchester City) left footed shot from very close range to the high centre of the goal. Assisted by Carlos Tévez with a cross.
Europa League
September 16, 2010
Goal!! David Silva hits a very good right footed shot to the lower left corner from the centre penalty area (aprox. 12 yards) and scores!! Manchester City now leads 1 - 0 .That last goal was assisted by Jô (Cross from Left Wing)
Premier League
September 19, 2010
Goal! Wigan Athletic 0, Manchester City 2. Yaya Touré (Manchester City) left footed shot from very close range to the top left corner. Assisted by Carlos Tévez with a cross.
FA Cup
January 9, 2011
GOAL Carlos Tevez gives Man City the lead!!! Leicester fail to react to a short corner, Milner in space drills a low cross to the near post. Tevez produces an excellent back-heeled finish at the near post to put the Citizens in front!
Premier League
January 15, 2011
Goal! Manchester City 4, Wolverhampton Wanderers 1. Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) header from the centre of the box to the top right corner. Assisted by Pablo Zabaleta with a cross following a corner
Premier League
April 3, 2011
Attempt missed. Carlos Tévez (Manchester City) left footed shot from the right side of the six yard box is close, but misses to the right. Assisted by Shaun Wright-Phillips with a cross.
.Attempt blocked. Mario Balotelli (Manchester City) header from the centre of the box is blocked
Assisted by Aleksandar Kolarov with a cross.
Premier League
May 17, 2011
Goal! Manchester City 2, Stoke City 0. Joleon Lescott (Manchester City) header from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Adam Johnson with a cross following a set piece situation

There are a few examples from the begining the middle and the end of the season.
We have scored quite a few goals from crosses so I don't see it as a problem.
If people are expecting it to be perfect every time they are expecting the impossible.
I am happy to start the season with the squad we have.
This is a quad winning side.

I agree and like I said, I would like to keep Sweep but I am not Mancini ! TBH, with the number of strikers we have, I don't see us playing with more than 1 out and out winger at any given time. On present form and thinking like Mancini, that probably is AJ (either on the left or on the right). We'll always have a combination of Aguero/Dzeko/Balo (maybe even Tevez) with one of them playing slightly wide.
If Milner will start ahead of Barry, he can always fill in at one of the wings according to run of play. Of course Silva can play anywhere, so really I don't see a problem with playing 1 winger only. So going back to the original post question, my answer is no we don't need (another) winger.

if mancini wants a new winger to provide some pace and crosses (im not so sure he wants the latter) then we should look at Jesus Navas.
from what ive seen from him when he's played for the spanish national team is decently impressive...but he can whip in a ridiculous amount of crosses, mostly all with good quality.

of course this wont happen since Mancini pretty much only looks at Serie A

You do realise that he's signed more players from La Liga than he has from Serie A?

Also Navas suffers really bad homesickness.. I heard he misses away champs league games, or internationals because of it.

Do we need another wide man of dubious quality?

In the interview Mancini said he wants "like a winger", the impression I got was that he wants a player that can play wide of a front three, ie an alternative to our original target Sanchez. I don't believe he meant a winger in the traditional sense because, as others have said, his preferred system doesn't accommodate out and out wingers.

Not really, considering you said that Bobby "pretty much only looks at Serie A" I would have at least expected you to be correct. Also, if we're counting kids you forgot Suarez.
