players who did a tevez

just watching rte when pundit eamonn dunphy said what tevez did was unprecedented in football
i thought it must have happened elsewhere so a 10 minute search came up with 2 players from probably the top two teams in europe

samuel Eto'o snubbed a substitute appearance for Barcelona when he refused to come off the bench to play against Racing Santander.

The Cameroonian striker told Eusebio - a member of the Barça coaching staff - he would not play when told to get ready five minutes from time.

Coach Frank Rijkaard refused to condemn the player, but said his refusal to play would set back his return to full fitness.

"He did not want to come on, I don't know why. He did not tell me, he told Eusebio," said Rijkaard.

"Am I annoyed? It is a shame because every minute he plays can be very important."

Fernando Morientes could have played his last game for Real Madrid after he swore at Vicente Del Bosque during the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The Spanish international had been warming up for most of the second half, but when he was called by the coach to get changed with just four minutes of the game remaining his frustration boiled over.

When Del Bosque told him he was going on, Morientes told Del Bosque that he should go instead and chastised him with a number of expletives and refused to go onto the pitch.

The European champions made it clear that the players that scored 18 goals for them last season was surplus to requirements following the purchase of Ronaldo.

Both Morientes and Guti have been pushed out of the side following the arrival of the Brazilian, but Ronaldo's poor form have led many to question Del Bosque's selection policy.

Now, the player's public outburst could well see him fail to gain a place even on the bench again with Javier Portillo waiting in the wings to take his place.

That was the Morientes incident. Morientes reportedly called Del Bosque a son of a !! and told Del Bosque that Del Bosque is the one who needs to warm up

George Best

No one in the media will see through the golden haze that is Alky George, but those of us who remember him will remember all the grief he gave United before he was fired. Kept disappearing off on the piss and stuff, not turning up.

Funny you dont hear about any of this now.

Didn't Robinho go on 'strike' so that he could sign for us?

Pierre Van Hooijonk went on strike when Forest came up to the top flight after squad strengthening hadn't taken place - trained on his own at a former club and ended up getting transferred although if I remember rightly Forest were relegated

This happens more than we think. From Sunday League to the best teams in the world, it happens, it's just that we don't hear about it.

Not at club level but a similar story about Stuart McCall

McCall was picked for England and Scotland under-21 sides on the same day in 1984,[61] and chose to play for England in a game against Turkey. However, he was only picked as a substitute and the referee blew the final whistle with McCall waiting to come on.[62] He later told Scottish newspaper Glasgow Herald, "I felt it was a mistake almost from the start. I was put on the bench and they tried to bring me on with a minute to go. But I took my time re-tying my boots and generally warming up and luckily didn't get on, otherwise that would have been that."[63] As a result, McCall was still eligible for both England and Scotland, and he eventually switched allegiances to the latter, for whom he qualified through his father. He made his Scotland debut in March 1988, ironically against England.[10] McCall made one more appearance for Scotland under 21s, against France in 1990.[64]

It's not new at City either to be honest. Jo, in fairness used to go on the pitch, but then didn't play ....
