All hail Andy Morrison

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

All hail Andy Morrison

Nice little article about one of our past enforcers:
http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/ ... 77,00.html

Despite only 46 appearances, his service to the City cause should never be forgotten. I'll certainly be buying his autobiography. Would have been fun if he was still in our team to see him confronting Tevez on his refusal to play in what was one of the biggest City games for a long time.

What do you all remember about Andy Morrison?

Walking into our dressing room and telling our squad to stop feeling sorry for themselves, confirming everyone was laughing at them, injecting some steel into the team and finally for the long diagonal ball to Mark Kennedy.

I will always remember him lifting the play-off trophy. I've got nothing but respect for this man.

Top class football player. Plymouth captain at about 18 or 19, where I watched him. Transferred to Kenny Dalglish's Blackburn title-winners.

Hard as they come and from a very hard family of Scottish/Plymouth (they moved) fishermen.

Obviously very big but incredibly skilful, let down by pace.

Memory - taking out a Colchester forward, the linesman and the advertising hoardings in the second division.

Last heard of chasing a player in his car after a Sunday league match into a pub car park and beating the shit out of him. Bad form, didn't go down too well on here with some. But you wouldn't mess with him, not even Mr 'hard man beat up Ulrika' Collymore, when Morrison licked his nose!

I remember his first game back following injury. Think it was Ipswich, possibly a cup game. Bit I remember was a long ball to the forward and the big man coming through, heading the ball about 50 yards and then planting both knees in the back of the forward. Don't recall the forward looking for many balls after that.

I think it was this game I was referring to. Night match at Colchester. Lua Lua was making his debut if I recall. I may google it.

Remember seeing him in the flesh just behind us at the Barcelona opening game in 2003. He may look enormous next to the average pro footie player but in a crowd and wearing normal clothes it was notable he didn't look really bulky at all - just really in top nick. Think we saw him on wembley Way going into the Tube station after Cup Final this year too - lots of blues surrounding him and chanting his name.

If he'd had pace & not so prone to picking up injuries, he would just about be the best CB we've ever had I recon. More balls than 99.9% of all other City players I've ever seen put together. Amazing leaping ability, a bit like Micah, but especially for someone so unathletic looking (& a much better timer of a header than Micah).

I remember him on [strike]Soccer[/strike] Football AM the Saturday after the Play-off win. He seemed the happiest and proudest player alive and was quite humbled by the fans that day .... proper light blue legend after only 40 odd games, says it all about the fella in my book ... when I get round to writting it.

The absolutely right man at the right time. I don't like to dwell on where we might be without him, he was the steel in the team when we were at our lowest ebb.

Another interesting book to look forward to then

I don't know if this is true. He went into Gianni's in Rusholme for his haircut sat down. The Italian barber asked him how he would like it cutting. The reply was "Properly please"

I once heard a story about a few City fans getting into a bit of a scarp in a pub in Blackpool after we played them in a frielndly, Andy was in the pub and, on seeing what was happening, steamed in to help out the Blues.

Does anybody know if this is true?
