Long way home

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Long way home

Postby BobbyJ1956 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 3:45 am

I've been thinking what a good trip back to Manchester all those City supporters must have had after the win at Arsenal, even with getting home at 2 and 3 in the morning. It's one of the things you miss about England with living overseas, they were good times those drives back up the motorway after a match, the radio on for Sports Report and stopping at a caff for a fry-up. (Lord, I could murder a bacon butty.) So it set me wondering, what are people's best memories of returning from an away win back in the day? And since it's a long way home when you've lost, what were the most wretched return trips you've had, too?

would the semi against the rags count as an away trip, cos that was a fantastic trip home.

Worst was actually a home game - for work I had to go to Edinburgh for the day and be in Newcastle the following day, together with another City fan. So we travelled all the way home, past Newcastle, getting back just in time to get to the match. After the match, we left Manchester about midnight to head back to Newcastle ready for an 8:30 meeting the following day. The match was against Arsenal at Maine Rd and we were 4-0 down in about 25 minutes. Arsenal were fantastic, but you did wonder why you'd bothered.
