kolo hasnt done too bad in the few matches he played recently, but lescott is better than him, but only slightly. ive been saying for 12 months or more we need a top centre back.
we all know how good vinny is, no need to repeat it, without vinny we would be about 4-5th in the table or worse.

Kolo lets the defender get goal side of him every time!

Kolarov - Mistake

So far, Clichy has been the only succesful signing Mancini has made in defence. Still love Mancini and think he is mint, but starting to think he doesn´t know what a defender is if one slapped him in the face

Really?
In past few years all I can remember is you moaning about him.

All the players you mentioned were questionable to begin with. I don't know whether they were Marwood or Mancini signings.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Kolarov is a disaster waiting to happen everytime he's on the team sheet. Hopelessly out of position against Valencia on Sunday for the first goal, gave away one penalty and was lucky to get away with not gifting them another. I'm still waiting for this great left foot to show up. Ok so he's scored a couple of free kicks and put in the odd decent cross but not on a consistant basis. I cringe when I see he's playing.

Savic looks far more at ease at right back. I thought he had a decent game against Bayern but looked nervy against QPR at CB. It's hard to tell because he's had so little game time and as with most CB partnerships they need games together. I doubt if he'll be in the team often enough for that to happen.
Balotelli......that's a brilliant finish.

When a young centre back makes a mistake and gives a goal away he is slated by the fans. when a young striker misses a good chance he gets far less grief because it 'costs' less, i know loads of central defenders who made plenty of mistakes when young and inexperienced.
Savic is one for the future, lay off him, give the lad time he is a good prospect. We should be supporting and encouraging him.

As i mentioned in the Savic thread; why ? Why is he a good prospect ?

from what i have seen i feel he has potential, but only time will tell, of course its an opinion and i could well be wrong, who knows. But how many centre backs are at the top of their game at this age? all young players make mistakes, just give him time.

I just don't see anything in his play, to pin any hopes on. Of course he can have a decent career in football, but these days, if a player is the future of MCFC, I expect to see something in him that makes him stand out; exceptional pace, uncanny leaping/heading ability, fantastic reading of the game etc. All I see in Savic is a moderate player who gets caught out. Like I said in the thread; I'd be absolutely delighted to be totally wrong but as it stands, he frightens me when he plays.

have to say, we should be investing in a CB this window - if he wasn't such a mard arse I would say Alex from Chelsea, although we should look again in the summer for a true world class CB such as thiago silva

kolarov i cannot defend. most of his 'deliveries' of late have been woeful and he just stands off wingers until they go past him when he brings them down, or they just whip the ball around him. has had very long runs in the side and never truly impressed, so i'm confident in saying its probably not gonna work out between us. get a youth with bags of enthusiasm and energy as a stand in for clichy.

mancini does deserve a wee bit of criticism in the defensive department he's failed with his full back buys in my opinion (except clichy, though i don't think he's a mint as many of you make out still a decent player).

This is exactly correct. He was brought in for the future not necessarily the present. He turned 21 FOUR days ago. He is cover, and doesn't have the experience. Was he the best option last night? Probably not, but for anyone to say he is a "joke" "shit" "not good enough" is way too premature. The skill potential is there, the confidence is not, and at 21 he still has not filled out. Maybe he is too raw to be bled at this level and this amount of pressure (Boyata handled the pressure much better in his first few matches for sure), but to write him off is mistake. How many players really don't hit their stride until mid-20s. Richards was extremely raw, and showed some brillance when he was 20, but he also hadn't filled out. Look at him now at the old age of 23.

I am not saying Savic will be a force like Micah, but it is too soon to say a mistake. No doubt he cost us last night but to just keep harping on him is getting old. Where is the support for our lads? Are you lot going to start chanting "Savic Out" and furhter ruin his confidence?

Like it or not, for the next 3 matches he will be in consideration to make the starting 11.

Our main area of concern for me. We half 2 out of the 4 defenders who are top quality (Vinny and Micah) , Lescott is good but and that's the problem there's always a but with him, never quite sure what the but is, but he will never reach the top. Then there's the left back slot which is still well short of being filled by a world class or even the next level of player, Get these two positions right and everything else will look even better. We are good now but lets be the best, cos we can be 1and everyone knows it
