Ledley King's Challenge On Mario (the penalty)

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Should have been a red, no doubt about it.

That was a clear goal scoring opportunity. Although, Balo could have been sent off for the balancing act. The referee gave clear indication that he saw both incidents.

Anyway, as you can see above, these things balance themselves out.

About the Red, You are correct. Somehow I think Webb knew that Spurs had f*cked up with seconds to go and left it at that.

Only because we are on the subject, but wasn't there a two footed tackle in the first half, by a Spurs player, quite possibly Van der Vaart? (who went down massively in my estimations yesterday anyway). I believe the ball was clearly won, but two feet flew in, and I believe both quite possibly connected with the ball.

Was that not Parker's challenge on Richards? Won the ball but went in with excessive force if the rules are the same as they were a fortnight ago.

That could be the one yeah mate, I just remember at the time it being a bit nasty, and worse than Vinnies. Not like that matters.

The ball is NOT mentioned in the Law and winning it, whether cleanly or otherwise is wholly irrelevent. It is only judges on the intent or amount of force used.

My thoughts exactly KK. Doesn't apply to entertaining Spurs and good honest Arry though.

What's happened to the fixtures tab updates mate?

vd Vart did one as well in the centre of the pitch. Went right through but luckily missed the player. Webb just stared at him before having a chat.

The only reason Parker wasn't carded for that or even a free kick given was because of Richards' positive reaction. Getting up early, no whinging and defending Parker. If Parker had been booked for this he wouldn't have lasted the second half with the persistent fouls he was committing, not as serious, but too many to stay on the pitch.

There is when taken in context with the bookings and red cards that we've been getting. Winning the ball is now irrelevant if excessive force is used. If Richards is a split second earlier he's got a broken ankle.
The likes of Souness saying its a perfect tackle are wrong, it was 20 years ago it's not now. Whether you like that or not those are the rules now. What was perfect was Richards reaction to it.

Exactly.

I get tired of repeating this...winning the ball or not is not mentioned in the law. It is not only irrelevent now, it always was irrelevent.

I stand by my original comment. Parker done fuck all wrong, one footed, controlled, not too excessive and a clean challenge.
