Mick McCarthy , SB , Keane , and a few others really are the runts of the litter when it comes down to managing.
If I was one of the owners of a team like Wolves Id go for some unknown and pay according to success or survival.

I cannot believe anyone would pay top money to one of those fuckign spastics mentioned...SB has been a failure above failures in management and wouldn't deserve my fucking salary let alone millions of pounds per year.
THEY SAY SWEARING IS DUE TO A LIMITED VOCABULARY. I KNOW THOUSANDS OF WORDS, BUT I STILL PREFER "FUCK OFF" TO "GO AWAY"

The same faces seem to be on a never ending gravy train & just when it looks like it's run out of tracks, they lay some more & off it goes again.

Mick ain't that bad. If he had the money Bruce pissed away, I'm sure he would've done much better. I remember him doing alright with ROI in the WC 02 at least.

When expectations are crap, then i think Bruce can do his best work...nothing to spend, need some value buys...he did that fine at Wigan i thought.

Hughes is in the same camp, which is why i think he'll fuck up QPR just right.

Look, it's all a gamble as a manager...it takes so much luck to really prove yourself -- the right owners with a good core of players to beat the drop to start with, committed fans, some history, etc....and this is why the Sheik saw City as a fantastic opportunity.

Look at that list of managers posted above...it's a fucking graveyard or nearly-was or has-beens or never-weres. And i can tell you not ALL of them are idiots at managing a football team. In the right circumstance one of them could flourish i'm sure.

You're probably right but that's life. For what it's worth, I think Keane could follow Ferguson & do a pretty good job; he's exactly the kind of obnoxious, inhuman, one eyed, bag of shit they need at OT. Trying that attitude amongst a bunch of journeymen players is unlikely to succeed however.

Most of them on that list have had more than one shot but not quite made it though. Imagine for instance if Bruce had signed decent players for Sunderland rather than a bunch of unimaginitive ex rag shite ? Someone else should get a chance instead of the same characters over & over.

well that's exactly my point tho maybe it sounded like i'm arguing against myself. You might find a gem in a lot of different places if you really try, and sure the list above contains some who could make it given another chance, but the chemistry has to be right -- your aspirations and budget as a club, the manager's historical ability to find talent and come with a group of fellas who know how to scout talent, etc...if it doesn't fit, it will fail invariably.

It's like opening a restaurant...always more like to fail than to succeed. it's a hard business to really showcase your best stuff in, which is why Roberto sat out for a while to wait for a job like City rather than slip into something which might tarnish his rep more than help it.

Personally I think they've confirmed they're relegation sacking Mick. Think they've been quite unlucky this year and they've played some decent stuff at times. Although I would say every time i've seen Hennersey he's given away a goal.

to give steve morgan some credit he's run the club in profit so he's an astute business man. I agree with previous comments, get someone in short term. I can't help but think its the curse of the ground expansion again!

It just goes to show what a dearth of managerial talent we actually have in this country.

When the top jobs come around, not a single name on that list will be considered. For one, none of them have won anything which although understandable given the sky 4's dominance, means that they are at a considerable disadvantage when it comes to managing a top side.

The only one at the moment on that list with any credit in the bank is Paul Lambert, but he could so easily go the way of an Owen Coyle, choose the wrong job next at a lower/mid table side and have your repuation stained forever. But on the flip side the big clubs wont touch you without experience of winning stuff.

Look at Villas-Boas. He was the hottest thing in management this time last year. Now he appears completely inept and out of his depth at a "big club" in a top league. He was appointed not because of his experience, but because he proved he could turn a team of winners into a team that won everything, once. Massive mistake by Abramovich, but in view of the talent on offer in this country, he had to look abroad, and not once in the 5/6 sackings chelsea have had, have they ever considered a British manager (except for rumours of Hughes, they dodged a bullet there!)

Good article on Mccarthy and what went wrong here

As an ex-City player I thought some may find this interesting.

I think thats slightly harsh on Mick McCarthy, I think hes a much better manager than those two.

The only strange thing about this sacking is I can't figure out who better there is to replace him. Almost noone on that list seems both good and feasible.

Interesting read that, Goaters, thanks. Also noteworthy that Wolves were offered, among others, Abdul Razak. I assume that would be on loan, or perhaps with a buy-back clause. He does seem to be rated by Mancini.

I feel sorry for Mick McCarthy to an extent. I don't see what more he could have done with the tools he had available to him.

Can't believe this topic has gone for so long without THAT .gif. "Sacked you say?!?".
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Haha. Not seen that before. Wtf ?

( Can't get the musical joke unfortunately, as I don't know the song & all I can hear is a bunch of students in a bathroom mumbling through a megaphone into a budget reverb. )
