And Paul McCarthy, spokesman for Tevez’s adviser Kia Joorabchian, suggested that the pair will get together for a clear-the-air meeting aimed at getting the player back in action.
Mancini has always maintained that he would be prepared to forgive Tevez if the player, who spent three months absent without leave in Argentina, said sorry for his actions when he refused to resume warming up in the match against Bayern Munich in September.
That is a real possibility, said McCarthy.
“I would have thought that was the natural thing, yes” he said.
But the issue was complicated by Tevez’s interview on Argentinian television, screened just before he returned to Manchester last week.
In it, Tevez criticised Mancini’s handling of the affair, and accused the manager of treating him ‘like a dog’ in Munich.
Mancini was said to have been ‘hurt’ by the new comments, and appeared to suggest that Tevez would be frozen out for the rest of the season, saying he would not speak about the player again ‘for three months’.
The two men have not met since the striker flew back to Manchester last Tuesday, as he arrived at the Carrington training ground late in the afternoon, after the manager had left for the day.
Tevez began a strict training regime the next day as the first team flew out for the Europa League tie at Porto, and the players were given the weekend off.
“They will have a meeting this week and I think a lot will come out of that,” said McCarthy. “Last week Roberto Mancini obviously had his mind on the game against Porto, and quite rightly.
“But Carlos is back training, going through a stringent training regime to regain match sharpness, as he hasn’t played since September 21.
“It’s inevitable he will meet with Roberto Mancini and then it is up to Mancini to decide a course of action for the rest of the season.”
Maradona criticises Mancini’s tactics
Diego Maradona has stated that he feels that Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini’s defensive tactics threaten to ruin their bid to win the Premier League title.
The Argentina legend has an interest in the Etihad Stadium outfit due to the fact that his son-in-law Sergio Aguero plays at the club, and the South American has given his thoughts on the English top-flight title race.
“My heart says Manchester City, but I believe Mancini with all the players he’s got, is not daring enough,” the Al-Wasl boss told Sport360, translated to English by Mirror Football.
“He’s a bit too defensive. Maybe because he is Italian.
“As an organisation, and with their style of play, I think United are more aggressive. But if I have to support one team, I’ll be a fan for my son-in-law.
“I think today, watching from my home in Dubai, seeing Aguero in Madrid would make for much more interesting matches than Kun Aguero at Manchester City.
“I talked to the president of Atletico Madrid and I told him that Aguero had amazing potential, and that he should surround him with good players so that Atletico could make history with him.
“As you know he did not listen to me. He didn’t listen. He sold Kun and I, as his father-in-law, think he chose well,” he concluded.
