For all of barca's total football, let's rusty trombone each other in a big single file line media stuff. Without messi they would just be a good arsenal or a shit city (city with dzeko upfront on his own). They play some great football at times that doesn't involve him but he is probably 95% of their attacking threat.

is it a reality that they play "total football" or just a myth based on their legacy?

if they play it, so do we, and i've never thought of us as playing "total football" to be honest.

it's sort of like GFE if we're honest with each other. What the fuck is it? It's not what Barca play from my education in football over the last 8 years.

On my Champions League debut with the aggregate at 10-1, I'd have done the same.

Messi the first player to score 5 in the competition. Poor Simone Inzaghi.

Although they don't play total football as it was originally known the style they use now is an adaptation of it. But for lazy/plain ignorant journo's it's all the same thing.

Problem is if the media say it is total football, the average fan who doesn't know any better believes it, and then when someone mentions total football or barca he will connect the two for whoever he is discussing it with because surely a football "expert" from the sun knows what he is talking about and so it spreads. Until the masses believe that barca play total football. Until one day in a pub when the rags put a few passes together and score you hear the term "total football" and feel like glassing every one of the spastics.

So yeah.

I stopped watching Barca at half time. The Germans played that game like many teams do at OT; like Stoke did at our place. Hopeless.

Re Messi; I think it's purely down to whether he ever fancies leaving Barca & that may depend on whether the next manager after Guardiola can keep up their standards. He's paid any debt he owes them, so it's upto him what he wants to do in the future. If he does go, we would probably be the favourites, as I think he'd want a challenge like the Premier League because it's different. There would be no point in leaving Barca to play in Spain or Italy.

Boring?

Riiiiiiiiiiiight....

I also think Barca are boring to watch. I mean they're awesome, probably the best team ever, but you know what's gonna happen. They're gonna wear the opposition down and then Messi is gonna score. I like beautiful footbal, of course, but I think I like the unpredictability of it even more so I agree with Phips on this one. Barca is like New Zeeland. The first weeks you go all ooooh aaaah because it's a beautiful country but then you get used to it. Same with Barca. We get it, you're good. Get over it. Sell Messi to us.

I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

They are, & no doubt results say they are as good or better than any team around, but when the two meet, it's usually pretty clear which team plays football at the higher level.

No doubt. I'm sure Real won't mind that though when they're win La Liga though.

They won't admit it, but they will still mind.

Dzeko for me. His movement off the ball and skill when on it is second to non.

Give credit where credit is due, Barca are a pretty decent team; they might even be good enough to provide City with some decent opposition.
