Congrats Big Vin!

Personally don't even think he's been our centre back of the year but there you go!

Get in! I would agree, but he probably also got the nod as our captain and talisman figure.

Who chooses this? Barclays/Barclaycard (whichever sponsors the PL)?

Pre-sheikh. He was one of the summer signings, along with Zab. Hughes was doing so well. Then the money arrived.

Yap, our Lider Maximo on the pitch was perhaps deserving the award more last than the current season but, You know, headers which sink the Rags work wonders, nowadays... and certainly, as You imply, the fact that Barclaycards are yet on sale, should have played a slight role for the assignment... :-)

anyway, from the deep of my heart, a loud resounding WELL DONE, VINCENT!!!

Is there a better CH in the world?

PS
a certain Joleon Lescott is not far behind!

I would argue that any good centre half is part of a pair. Joleeeen has looked dodgy when not with Vince, yet together, he's often looked the more solid of the pair. Good centre halves also need a good keeper and vice versa

Vinny dedicated it to the rest of the defenders straight away. Full of class that man.

Probably played better last season over 38 games, last season certainly got him noticed to the masses. Well done!

Not really pre Sheikh, he was signed in late August while the negotiations were being completed, the Sheikh ok'd the deal and guaranteed the money for VK and also for SWP a few days later. VK was the real first signing of the revolution...

Still pre-sheikh and although he may have guaranteed the deal, it was still a pre-sheikh signing both in terms of the type of player and the fee. My original point still stands that Hughes' cheap signings were pretty good - Zab, Vince, SWP. It was once someone gave him a bottomless pit that he went mad (Bridge, RSC in the main)

If the takeover hadn't happened (and we'd avoided bankruptcy somehow) I suspect Hughes would have turned us into a half decent top 6 side - an Everton. He was clearly out of his depth beyond that
