When you watch last season's goals again, to me, the astonishing thing is the uniformly high quality of, virtually, all of them.
When a side scores over 90 in the League, you'd expect a goodly number of them to be of the 'scruffy' quality; i.e tap-ins, own goals, penalties, ricochets, scrambles, disputed efforts etc etc. Not these though. Granted, an odd one or two are what you might term 'indifferent' but nearly every one of the remaining ones is beautifully crafted and many/most are finished off with a high degree of technical excellence which is wondrous to behold.
All in all, an absolutely breathtaking collection.
I'm also sure that if anyone were to watch the corresponding dross from the Scum, a lot of their goals/most of them (??) could be merely categorised as 'functional' and show very little ouitstanding creativity, imagination and flair. Putting all City bias to one side, I don't consider the Scum to be an attractive side and a lot of their goals seem to be very similar in that the ball is regularly/constantly played in from wide positions and in a percentage of cases, a boot sticks the ball over the line and that's an end to the matter....hardly the stuff of dreams.
Perhaps the kindest thing you could say about them is that, like their goals, they are a functional side; no more, no less, with none of the artistry and poetical beauty of City's play.
All in all, City's goals this season are a wonderful credit to the Club, the Management and the Players. Long may they continue to flood in.
