The Premier League clubs have thrown out a proposal to bring Celtic and Rangers into the English top flight.
Discussion has raged for some time about whether the Old Firm could be included in a new-look English top flight.
A two-tier Premier League including the Glasgow giants was on the agenda at a meeting of chairmen on Thursday.
Several managers, such as Alex McLeish,Martin O'Neill, David Moyes and Harry Redknapp, had previously voiced their support for the idea.
However, the Premier League have now confirmed that Celtic and Rangers will not be invited to leave the SPL.
Speaking before the announcement, Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher explained that he would be opposing the plan due to fears over the repercussions.
"My first view is that it would ruin football in Scotland," said Fletcher.
"What the Hearts and Hibernians and Aberdeens of this world would think about it ... whether they would slip into non-league football, I don't know."
Bad move
Burnley's former Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher agreed that removing Celtic and Rangers from Scottish football would be a bad move.
"Everyone looks forward to playing the Old Firm sides so I think it would take a big part of that away," said the 22-year-old.
"I've played a lot of my football up there and I don't want to see that.
"I don't think they'd do badly if they came down but they're two Scottish teams and I think they should stay up there for the SPL's sake as well."

They'd be relegation fodder from the get go, although Celtic in particular would eventually generate a lot of money a become a top club in the prem IMO.
I couldn't give a bollox about either of them TBH.

I think that it is disgusting to be even considered - what about the prospects of the championship clubs that have been striving - and the D1 teams below that - why should Celtic & Ranger get in ahead of them - for me they would have to join the conference and work their way up

I'm fairly certain our chairman voted 'no' - I don't want to see either set of fans anywhere near COMS until they show some common decency.

What is it with Rangers and Celtic fans? When one or the other get slaughtered by other clubs fans for their 'shenanigans', you'll get a few condoning it but there's always a 'BUT' in there, they then go on to say how the other club is worse for doing this and that.

good, two of the worst clubs in football. i would have been disgusted if they got in the pl.
although they would have been the football league's problem a season later.

Ridiculous idea, good riddance. And this lunatic notion that their fans have that just because they get big crowds they would top the league. Like Newcastle and Leeds eh? Or City for the last 30 years for that matter.
They can fuck right off.

The Bolton chairman submitted the proposal/motion or whatever - so that leaves five others - I would guess it would be in the Sky four's own interests for a two tier premier league (because it would probably mean a later entry into domestic cups for them) so who would the other be? Villa/Everton/Fulham/Spurs?

Great news them two clubs getting fucked off by the English Premier League, Fergiescum getting fined 20k and a 2 game ban (it should have been more) i was hoping for a treble with a City win but i was being too greedy. I'll settle for the other two for now.

I really don't understand why anyone would think that its the responsibility of English football to fix Scottish football. Should we also invite in Ajax? Its their problem let them sort it out.
