Panic In The Heart Of Our Defence

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

I recon those two goals could have been scored against our defence in any game, against any team last season. When the ball is bouncing around on the edge of the box & someone swings a foot at it, said ball can always end up in the back of the net.

It's not possible to control a ball bouncing like that unless you are Lionel Messi & even he would struggle.

The key is not to let the ball get there in the first place by stopping it in the midfield.

All the top teams looked very rusty and a bit disjointed.we conceded 2 scappy goals when we should have been out of sight, chelsea kept a clean sheet but looked like conceding on a good few occasions, arsenal struggled from what I've seen up front and manure were bullied out by team that looked like they've been playing for 4-5 weeks.its just a case of needing more time training together and game time imo.nothing too serious to worry about.

Confidence in our goalie has completely evaporated hence the panic in front of him

In our last three home league games there have been 4 shots on target and Joe has not saved any of them

Its just a good job that the red swamp dwellers never tried a shot on goal in the derby

Come on Joe sort it out!

Problem recently is that without DJ or Barry sat in front of the back 4 strikers have been able to run at our defence and take shots from just inside the D where in the past they'd have had to go wide.

How are you defining "real"?

Did I really post it? Apparently!!

Did I mean it? Well that depends how you interpreted it , but it was not intended to be taken literally. I do apologise if it upset you!

We've spent all pre-season playing three at the back. For the first meaningful game we go back to a back 4. Add to that the usual issues which all sides have in the first few games of a season and I'm sure there's nothin to worry about.

If we're still conceding two goals a game in a couple of weeks, I'll start to panic.

Once Mancini has had some time to work with Rodwell we should hopefully see an improvement there.

Barry is very good at taking up the correct positions to cut out threats, dont under-rate that. Rodwell a good prospect has a bit to learn yet.

tad disappointed by lapses shown by the whole defensive gear (not defendres alone, although watching Zabba at almost opposite of his usual defendise standards pissed me off a bit), but not a single once of concern thereby. as the season progresses the lads will show have their focus back on details and the unit will return the most solid of the League.

My only serious (little) concern lays on that we still have a long deal of improvement ahead of a dominant team, insofar striking accuracy and conversion rate of goalscoring opportunities are concerned. that obviously not based on the opener, but as constant of the improvement curve of our game since last winning season. It has only disguised by the excellent creativity of our game and single players, but the problem still exists, despite I wouldn't change one single of our top strikers with anyone.

Hopefully NDJ will calm things up and act as a shield, a bit more defensive maybe, and pack the midfield.
Anyone think we will start with just Tevez up front, maybe Rodders will sit this one out, and Milner, NDJ in?

no I don't think so at all.
I really think and hope that Bob will use that very unfortunate casualty to challenge the desire of Edin to become a top amongst the tops.
hence, it will rather be like at the Spud game last term, 4-2-3-1 with Edin upfront and Herman roaming around with Dave (when fit) and Samir, behind Dzeko.
as for the 2 in front of the back, one place is Yaya and the other will involve either of others with no particularl influence, imo.
as Bob keep seeing Jimmy Jaws it's most probable he will shade Dave until the Wizard will be back.

You could start another thread entitled,"If this is the answer what is the question?" it would be good for a giggle but it would have to be in off topic because the answers would probably have nothing to do with City or football.

Ok, i'll bite. Can't help thinking there's a really shit youth coach somewhere who's robbed the world of two excellent second strikers, or some other position, any position in fact other than their stated job. The emperor's stark bollock naked, sorry. And i'm a glass has still got at least a spittle of booze left in it type of guy.

I recon Sideshow Bob could become world class playing in the def midfield position everyone is talking about signing Martinez for. He has much more ability as a footballer & has pace. I thought at one time that Savic may be able to play there too, but the more I watch him, the more I'm starting to wonder if professional football is the right career choice for him.

The last 15 mins at home to Southampton was shocking.

Nothing to do with the defence. Individually they were good. The midfield fell to bits. They couldn't keep the ball, and Rodwell can protect the back 4 like De Jong so we had runners coming at us continually.

The window needs to close soon before we sell De Jong. I'm not sure what's going on at City at the moment. Doesn't help with all this ITK rumours. Not sure whether they are true or not.
