Alternatives to sky sports

Postby Wooders » Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:12 pm

I'm sick to the back teeth of all the money sky make off me so i can watch sky sports

I've got movies and all that stuff but the whole thing costs me about 65 quid a month (you have to pay an extra tenner for HD, the robbing bastards) - I looked into getting rid of every other channel bar sky sports but the savings aren't that great (only about another tenner or so off) so I am thinking about binning it completely - if it wasn't for sky sports I would have done it ages ago

so - what legal alternatives are there? I have BT infinity so I imagine I could stream HD quality? Any cheap options online to get my games on ?

Mate, I had the full works, multi-room, HD, every channel and Internet/phone. Cost me a small fortune, especially for someone who works away all week and for long periods as well. However, it wasn't that that put me off, it was the constant Rag shit and daily bullshit stories about us that did me.

Some people may say I'm paranoid but when I hear the constant drivvel, I know who I'll be supporting.

As for the alternatives, everything you need is free on the web, just utilise it or get down to the pub on away days, it's a whole new world.

There are plenty options, you will need alternative hardware I.e. satellite receiver for foreign channels, larger dish probably about 1mtr diameter (like the older original sky analogue dish), a CAM (conditional access module) for the subscriptions.

Cost about £400ish and should include the first year subs.

There are plenty of sites out there selling to pubs, the kit is the same, but if you get the right one I believe subs are about £60-100 as year per cam, most recommend having a couple of different ones as different channelsmay not show the game you want, by having second cam you are simply expanding your options.

One site I have looked at before is 3pmfooty.com, but like I say there plenty out there, if you can't find one locally then buy on line and get a local aerial installer to fit, the principal of installing it is no different to sky, are just pointing at a different satellite in the sky.

Probably find more if you Google CAMS for English premier league, just a question using the right search frases.

Allow me to play devil's advocate for a moment and present the other side of this argument.
