I didn't see all the goals last night and i'm not sure I can really comment on them but if Joe made mistakes; keepers make mistakes every single week in every single game but most people have no clue about goalkeeping they wouldn't be able to spot it.

He was fault for the third which was a free kick from a fair distant out. Just as the ball was hit he took a gamble with a slight movement to his right and the ball went left, the movement to the right was enough to prevent him getting down to his left quick enough. Pretty poor for him but he knew it by the way he just lay there.

The 4th was a freak goal, one in a million. Joe didn't cover himself in any glory but I think by that point all faith in his back 4 had gone so he took a gamble which went tits up. If your going to come haring out ya goal like he did you have to get enough on it. Have you really not see that goal yet. As I said freak.

Joe Hart is the best keeper in the 'League of Nations' that is the Prem, in my book.

His problem, if that's the right word, is that last season set a real benchmark by which he now has to be judged. Certain of the keepers at lesser clubs, such as Vorm, are following in Hart's footsteps.

I have to say, though, that I am not a fan of the face-pulling 'psyche out' that he sometimes indulges in.

Sorry i was just talking about goalkeeping in general. I've re-watched the goals the one i'd be most concerned about is the 2nd goal, it was a bit similar to spurs goal on sat; Joe got his body to it but couldn't turn it round the post, having said that it was leathered at him from point blank range.

For the third he's stood too far behind his wall and his view is also blocked by a team mate. When a keeper sets up a wall it should be covering one side of the goal and the keeper the other. That way if the free kick taker takes on the wall and scores its a great free kick. If he takes on the keeper the goalie should be the favourite to save it. If he stands in the middle he's unsighted of the ball until its kicked and past the wall and if its in the corner its usually a goal. (for examples look at pretty much every free kick taken against Shay Given ever - Kolarov in the LC this year)

For the 4th, the ball takes a unusually high bounce as Joe comes out so he heads the ball with the top of his head instead of his forehead. Personally I blame Shawcross for ambling back to the goal-line to clear it. Couldn't he have ambled against us in the league?

Joe's a young keeper, he's still improving, he won't hit his peak as a keeper til his mid 30s, its a testament to how good a keeper is he's made so few mistakes we can analyse them individually.

He had one of his poorer games last night (as did most of the squad in front of him) The only difference is any mistake a goalkeeper makes has more drastic consequences and is easier to pick to pieces than an outfield howler. He's a big lad and will put it behind him and move on.

I've got a lot of sympathy for your viewpoint Lee - especially as no-one on this forum would ever want to see Joe getting needlessly injured playing for the mediocre assemblage that is now the England team.

On the other hand, you could imagine the owners being more than happy to see him in the International side, particularly if he plays well and makes some eye catching saves as this would, globally, help raise City's profile - and therefore the Abu Dhabi world-wide profile - even further.

Perhaps if England were a better side, we'd all view things differently.

i disagree with that. Joe's been at it a while, and while he will still improve, the next 5 years will be his best. he'll peak around 30 and then start to slope down a bit....

it's not about age imho, but the mileage on the car. Ask Andie...she's a young lass at 35-ish and could barely still run i think. In fact, if she had a dog to walk i'm not sure she could even walk her!

cheers

Who cares? Majority of the time he's very good, while occasionally making the odd silly mistake. England are shit are on the level of Poland in terms of quality, joe has to make do with shit team and defence.
