There is no way Beckham would keep anything he does secret ... how would he get the adulation he craves?

We had topic about this and Murphy remains my guess as well. What we know about this feller through his columns all fits Murphy. He seems particularly intelligent and thoughtful for a footballer. Murphy has lower league experience, England experience and experience of both title fight and relegation fight. He mentions having good Scandinavian friend in football and I know Murphy was mates with Hyypia. He has family as does Murphy.

In fact I'd be pretty shocked if it wasn't him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Has he wasted all his cash? Doesn't the snippet this time mention a big tax bill taking his money?

In this article he mentions being with one of his former clubs for 5 years, which fits with Murphy at Fulham - he strongly implies he isn't in the Prem any more either, which fits with Murphy signing for Blackburn. I think you're onto something.

I always thought it was Danny Murphy.

Now he is out of the Premiership it makes sense that the book would come out now.

Neither Shorey or Davis were in the England squad around the time of Trevor Sinclair playing for England.

It seems you are right.

Really can't think of anyone else. Maybe Kevin Phillips but somehow I can't see him quoting Proust having seen his interviews.

Same here, plus I heard he suffered from depression which is partly why he stuck with Bolton so long as it was a comfortable club who supported him through his bouts of depression.

That's a weird bit of trivia but I suppose Gary Speed got cozy there too.
