I expected another penalty to be given following Cleverley's attempted challenge (lunge) but the commentator made that sound heroic.

Didnt watch the game as international friendlies are glorified monkey tennis in terms of significance.

I do note that twitter is full today of tabloid journos describing Wilshere as "world class" which is the worst thing that can happen, and also the most overused phrase in modern football. "World Class" refers to proper world clsss players, a select few, like Xavi, Messi, Iniesta, Ronaldo etc.

In football terms Wilshere hasnt done anything in football at all yet, but already our press want to crown him. Looking at the Brazil line-up, it was hardly the 1970 team England took on last night - had the scent of a few has-beens and nearly men within it.

I know, Mr H, in your player assessment that you thought Cleverley was OK and linked up play well, but from my own (albeit subjective and biased City) perspective, I just can't see what he brings to the table.

In the recent England games in which Hodgson has picked him, he looks less than average to my mind and certainly not of the required international quality for representing the country.

He can't beat or outrun an opposing player, his first touch and overall technique leaves much to be desired, he's no great shakes in the air. I don't think he's much of a tackler (other than his efforts as per the Paul Scholes school of late and illegal arrivals), his positional sense doesn't stand out in any way, he can't shoot and when, occasionally, he gets in the box, his finishing is akin to abject mediocrity.

Last night he ran around a bit, but that was the sum total of his contribution and I'd like to ask how the deuce he manages to get into this England side, in spite of how miserably poor the overall quality is and where a strolling and thoroughly disinterested Brazil side made England look far better than they are, in a totally meaningless friendly ??

tom cleverly is yet another overrated english player like welbeck who gets hyped up because he plays for the scum. To get into the england squad, all you need to do is play a few games for the scum and roy safety first will pick you.
Still here.

Fook me, checking out a few of my sites, you'd think you'd already won the world cup.

Brazil are currently ranked 18th in the world, their lowest ever ranking.

How strange that Cleverly now playing for the rags gets in the England team all the time but when on loan at Wigan he never got a sniff.

Would you bet against them losing the next match??
The rankings are about as accurate as my golfing mate Mc Slice from the clan Mc slice.

Their next game is against Italy, so no, I wouldn't.

Rankings are skewed against them 'cos they're not playing qualifiers for the World Cup, but they had a poor performance at the last Copa America, and weren't too snazzy in the World Cup, either. I'd say it's the weakest Brazil squad in my lifetime.

Be fair, it was pretty enjoyable for a friemdly. Its right we should see some kids given a chance even if Smalling, Wellbeck and Cleverly are blackburn standard. Lantern jaw didn't exactly set the world alight did he, lol.IMO Wiltshire was different class and will be our salvation if he stays fit.
