I thought 2 years ago that this was the sort of direction Bobby Manc was taking us. We certainly seem to have drifted since winning the title.

First problem though is that our midfield isn't dynamic enough and lacks the energy to play like that (sorry Gaz Baz).

The second problem, as I see it, is that unless you have one hell of a squad you can't play like that for 60 games a season. If you try and ease off for a couple of games you get a Southampton result (or Granada in the case of RM). Wiser heads than mine could probably solve this, but, to my way of thinking there a couple of solutions.

First, have so much posession that you can "rest" with the ball, knacker the opponents, and increase your chances of a late winner if you need one.

And/or, go all out from the start and get a couple of goals in front. Then keep the ball as much as possible, stifle the opposition and pick them off with rapid counter attacks.

Now, I think that we try and play like that, but we aren't doing it consistently enough at the moment. Also, if you get a team that just "parks the bus" they can stifle you no matter how much posession you have - we've all seen that. Then you get teams that are more dynamic than you (Dortmund) and you can't play your own game.

More than anything though it's having the right players all the way through the 25 man squad and I don't think we have - yet.

I agree pretty much with all of that (including the bit about GB & have mentioned it in that thread, much as I rate him).

I think that when we do as you are suggesting, we may not always win but are a difficult team to beat, but we have tried to develop various nuances to improve on that, we have gone down the 'clever tactical' road as opposed to the 'put some fucking crosses in' road. We are not organised, competent or athletic enough to carry out some of the tactics Bob has attempted this season & in Europe & sometimes in the Premier League sides can rip holes in it.

We were hoping for Bob to build on what we had & work out a plan B, instead he tore up some of what we did have & came up with plans C, D, E & F, none of which work consitently & the players are not fully versed in any of those plans.

The rags by contrast, just try to keep implementing A & B, & all their players, from the kids' team up, understand how to do it.

I happen to think the most shocked to be 12 points clear will be the Rags, we have gift wrapped it with a bow on with draws against crap, Saints was cherry on the top, RVP asside average and steady is the best they have mustered, out played by countless sides this season and smash and grabb perforemed on a regular basis. We could have and should have walked it this year with better performances from players and management.

I think it's as simple as the fact that they know their method works & if teams don't put them away, they cash in.

Most of the games we have drawn or lost have been against sides who 'did ok' not sides who were brilliant on the day & played like Champions. The rags would have won most of the games we have dropped points.

We outclassed them when we played them. They did what they do, every week, & hoped it would work. They got 3 goals for it due to shit defending by us, & won. That last line could be quoted by supporters of about 15 other teams this season.

The other 15 raise the game for half a dozen games a season, we are ahead of the game with last seasons win we have just cocked it up as I said Draws, have killed us, and a loss for us on a win weekend for them was massive. I am sure the management and I mean above Mancini are looking at this now as show us why you going forward. The red family members I have still are to nervouss to spout off, but that is coming. Neck on the line here if we lose this weekend is Bobby in trouble, I am firmly behind him 100% BTW. I was major pissed off with QPR away but shit happens, we are now in a two way fight for second. Which in itself is poor considering the state of Chelsea on and off the pitch.
