Still John Terry organises unofficial tours of the Chelsea training ground and pockets the money, Messi cheats on his taxes, and premier league players rent out / sell their allocated seats for big games...

And don't you think gambling addicts like Etherington, or drug addicts like Merson would be prone to accept a bribe or two?

And don't you think a match official is more likely to be swayed by the offer of a bribe considering his pay compared to that of an average Prem player?

Yes I do. I'm just jumping into the discussion without really knowing what it's about!

But is it really any different than multi-billionaires/milionaires who get busted for insider trading for a few thousands. People who are worth far more than footballers.

I think the inference is blackmail. Certainly in the article I posted. Also, Gerrard, Rooney....

Not necessarily what they would stand to gain, rather what they would potentially lose. I.e. everything.

No I'm working today. Maybe tomorrow mate...

Wherever there is large amounts of money there is corruption of some description. Football is different in that the football associations in each country know that any findings will harm everyone. I'm not saying they cover it, nor am I saying it's as blatant as having certain players fucking up big situations on purpose.

More so I think it runs through influencing plenty of small situations, such as free kicks, corners that never were... sendings off... be it the player purposely fouling or more likely, the refs swaying the game.

I've seen enough in our title winning season alone to know quite a few games were "influenced" in some way or another.

None of my rag mates share the same opinion mind you...

i'm of the opinion that it happens but I think that quite often when it happens it involves players on opposing sides i.e if Rooney and Gerrard both got bribed to me they would cancel each other out.
There is probably loads of it going on.

To those that believe it's rife, how can you still enjoy the sport if you believe this goes on?

I'm not saying it doesn't but I prefer to take the ostrich approach when it comes to this, tinfoil never looked good on me anyway.

Fulop in his last game for West Brom v Arsenal looked like one of the clearest match fixing games I've ever seen.

Arsenal qualified for the CL at the expense of Spurs with that win which must be worth £20m at least!
His behaviour was worse than Grobellar at his most "eccentric".

A mate of mine here in the office plays semi-pro football and has done for a few years.

He knows that it is rife in the game. Not long ago he was playing and the opposing team had lumped on big time to get beat. As they are walkin down the tunnel at half time and the score is 0-0 one of the opposition pipes up "Are you fuckers gunna score or what cos I've got five grand riding on you!" This type of this is commonplace and therefore it is definately going on in the professional game for sure. He says it's quite funny cos when the opposition have backed you, they keep giving the ball away and your nights work is a lot easier.

Baumann had a great game today, just seen the highlights. After match interview definitely a wacko. His team won away at Nurnburg. The way he performed last week was questionable.

Results like 8-0 certainly look dodgy as fuck. I dont think a player can influence a correct score but the result was never in question after Ruddy let in 2 he could perhaps have done better with. Not suggesting any foul play at all but it does get you thinking
