ROUND-UP
The build-up has already started to this weekend’s Premier League clash with Sunderland, and Seb Larsson has come out fighting.
The Black Cats have won two of their last three games under Gus Poyet, and have a decent record against City in recent seasons.
Larsson has told the press there will be no fear factor when the Sky Blues visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.
He is quoted in the Daily Express as saying: "At home, in front of a big crowd backing us, we have shown we can do it as we have beaten them before in previous seasons. We know we have the confidence of beating them before, but if we are being honest we will have to play the perfect game to beat them again. Why not do that on Sunday?
"It will need all of us, from one to 11 to be at our very best to get a result, but we can do it as we have shown in the past.”
Elsewhere, Christmas decorations have started going up (no, really), so it must be time for transfer gossip to start hogging the headlines as January gets ever closer.
ForzaItalianFootball.com, which has translated a report from French media outlet Le10Sport, reports that the PSG striker could look to leave the Ligue 1 club at the end of the year because he is fed up of competing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Aguero and Pochettino scoop Premier League awards

Image
Sergio Aguero and Mauricio Pochettino have been named PL player and manager of the month
Sergio Aguero and Mauricio Pochettino have taken home the Barclays Premier League player and manager of the month awards for October, completing an Argentine double in the English top flight.
Aguero has enjoyed an excellent month, scoring four times in three Premier League games for Manchester City. The striker bagged a double against West Ham and added two more in the matches against Everton and Chelsea.
This is the first time Citizens striker Aguero, who is joint top-scorer together with Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge, has won the Player of the Month during his time on these shores.
Aguero's countryman, Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, has been the pick of the bunch in the manager's category and has been recognised for leading his side to a lofty sixth place in the Premier League, just one point behind Chelsea in second.
The former Espanyol manager has masterminded October victories against Swansea and Fulham, as well as the magnificent 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Southampton have been further rewarded by the England call-ups for the trio of Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert for the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany.
It's domestic form which will be of more interest to supporters at the Etihad Stadium and St. Mary's however, with clashes against Sunderland and Hull City respectively this weekend.
City are reported to still be interested in landing the Uruguayan should he become available.
The report reads: “The 26-year-old just recently joined the French side over the summer from Napoli for a record breaking fee of around €64 million, but it is believed that he may be considering his options due to competition in the team’s line up.
“According to Le10Sport, the Uruguayan international isn’t fond of his role at the club, as he constantly has to compete with star forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, though he’s still managed a successful run in Ligue 1 thus far.
“It’s expected that the striker has already begun discussing his next destination with his entourage, with big European clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City having reportedly renewed their interest in landing the player’s services.”
Closer to home, City’s on loan midfielder, Abdi Ibrahim, is said to be attracting interest from around Europe and the Daily Star claims that three English clubs have joined the chase.
David Wright notes: “Premier League trio Everton, Hull and Crystal Palace have joined Newcastle in the race for Manchester City midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim.
“The 22-year-old midfielder, who has been compared to former Citzen Patrick Vieira in his playing style, is understood to have been told he is allowed to find a new club in January.
“A host of European sides, including Sevilla, Espanyol, Real Betis, Lyon, Lille, Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, have all been linked with a move for the centre-midfielder, but he might yet be tempted to stay at Stromsgodset when his loan contract expires.”

David Silva: Manchester City playmaker sidelined for a month
Manchester City playmaker David Silva is set to miss up to four weeks with a calf injury sustained in midweek.
The Spain international limped out of the 5-2 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday.
He is likely to miss five matches, but may be in contention to return at Southampton on 7 December.
The former Valencia man, 27, has made an impressive start to the season, scoring three goals in seven Premier League starts.
However, Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful captain Vincent Kompany will be available for their home game against Tottenham on 24 November following a thigh injury which has kept the Belgian out of action since the beginning of October.

In-form Sergio Aguero focused on Manchester City results
Sergio Aguero is enjoying his goal spree but insists Manchester City's results matter far more than personal milestones.
The Argentina striker has been in lethal form this season, going joint top of the Premier League scoring charts on eight with Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge and adding five more in four UEFA Champions League outings.
Struggling Sunderland are next in his sights - and with 22 goals conceded in the 10 games this term, the Black Cats look ripe for the taking at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
Aguero told City TV: "I am very happy (with my tally) not only for the goals, but for the victories.
"I think most of my goals have helped to win the three points and that's the most important thing for me."
Aguero's latest strike partner Alvaro Negredo, City's summer signing from Sevilla, has also had his shooting boots on of late.
He has scored nine goals for the club to date, striking five times in his last three outings, all in different competitions.
Negredo went one better than Aguero by netting a hat-trick in the 5-2 Champions League success over CSKA Moscow in midweek and the Argentinian is happy with the combination.
"It's really good," he added. "Alvaro has arrived this year and played really well and so has the partnership between us. We have to continue on because it is an important part to help the club forward."
Meanwhile, Aguero's compatriot Martin Demichelis has praised manager Manuel Pellegrini for asserting his own style on the City squad.
Demichelis knows the Chilean boss better than most from their shared time at Malaga and he believes the demolition of CSKA shows the message is getting through at the Etihad.
"We knew how important the game was and tried to show right from the start that we wanted it over and done with as soon as possible. The most important thing was to reach the knockout rounds," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"To get to the round of 16 was our first objective and we have achieved it.
"(Pellegrini) has a way of making sure his teams play in the way he wants, that we play effective football and that we can challenge for important things. We are in a good place now and we will have to see what happens afterwards."

Aguero risks Mancini wrath by expressing disappointment at seeing Tevez marginalised
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero says he feels sorry that team-mate Carlos Tevez has been unable to settle his differences with manager Roberto Mancini.
Aguero, who is in the Argentina squad for World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Colombia, says it's a 'shame for everyone' Tevez has been marginalised by City.
'What happened is very sad,' Aguero said. 'Carlitos is now training at the club, but not with us. It is a shame. Hopefully, in these days or the next month it can be solved and he will be with us.'
Tevez, also left out of the Argentina squad, provoked a scandal in September when Mancini believed he refused to come on as a substitute during City's 2-0 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich. Tevez has insisted he was misunderstood and never refused to play.
Mancini says he is willing to forgive the striker if he says he's sorry, but Tevez has not yet apologized.
In an interview with Corriere Della Sera, Mancini said: 'Everything depends on Carlos. If he apologises to the squad and to me then everything will be as before.
'If he doesn't then Tevez has a value that everyone knows and something will happen in January. He is totally unprepared and being badly advised. I don't want it to be like this and I would be the first to forgive him.'

Joey Barton queries Fabio Capello's decision to leave out Micah Richards
QPR captain Joey Barton says he 'does not understand' why the England squad for the upcoming friendlies does not include Manchester City's Micah Richards or any Newcastle players.
On Sunday coach Fabio Capello unveiled his squad for the games with Spain and Sweden, with Everton's Jack Rodwell and Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge given their first call-ups.
But there was no place for Richards, despite being in the squad for the last England match against Montenegro, or any players from Newcastle, despite them being unbeaten so far this season and having the best defensive record in the Premier League.
'Don't understand Eng Squad,' tweeted former Manchester City midfielder Barton.
'No Newcastle players?? No Micah Richards?? Surely he has to be Man City 5 pts clear, MoM at Old T [Man of the Match in City's 6-1 win over Manchester United] and skipper??'
Richards also aired his disappointment at being left, out, tweeting 'Well well well!!!! Disappointed is an understatement!!'
Barton, who has played once for England, against Spain in 2007, has previously been outspoken in his criticism of the England squad and set-up, saying playing all games at Wembley make it 'an elitist, southern-based team' which the average fan no longer cared about.
Last month he rang a radio phone-in to express his disappointment at being overlooked for the team, saying he was 'far from hard done-by but it would have been nice to play for England'.
He added: 'I've played well enough over the last 18 months for them to select me, he's [Capello's] chosen not to, so for me I'm planning on going away and playing golf and watching the [European] Championships on TV, and no doubt being massively let down by an England side coming home quite early.'

Man City are preparing to pay up to £25 Million for Real Madrid midfielder
Manchester City are to bid for Midfielder Sami Khedira as they look to strengthen their depth in Midfield.
City are set to be without Yaya Toure for up to 8 weeks from January as the Ivory Coast international plays in the African Cup of Nations and reports in Spain are suggesting that Manager Roberto Mancini could look to German Sami Khedira as a replacement and potential partner in the centre of the park.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho signed Khedira after the player shone in 2010’s World Cup and recently scored his first goal for the club last month, and it seems as though Khedira is on Roberto Mancini’s shopping list as he looks to re-enforce his title challenging side.
Reports are suggesting that Manchester City owners are prepared to meet Real Madrid’s demands but will not be bullied into paying excessive transfer fee’s and will look to pay in the region of £25 million but in recent days Spanish Media outlets are suggesting that Khedira may be offered along with a fee for out of favour Carlos Tevez.

Comparing Manchester City With and Without Vincent Kompany
It’s often been said that Manchester City look like a different side when Vincent Kompany is absent. Weaker, softer, more brittle—the opposition appear to get a boost when they see a City team sheet bereft of his name. He’s a world-class centre-back and by far City’s best defender.
For all of Mark Hughes’ failings—and there were many—the £6 million signing of Kompany remains a very shrewd piece of business. It represents one of the finest pound-for-pound signings of the last decade, and one of the best transfer deals in City’s history.
Hughes’ mishandling of Kompany came when he dogmatically played him in midfield, despite him displaying all the characteristics of a top-drawer defender. Once Roberto Mancini arrived, however, Kompany was a permanent centre-back and quickly developed a reputation as one of the best in the Premier League.
Solid defensively and excellent with the ball at his feet, he is a complete modern-day centre-half.
With Rio Ferdinand now a fading force and Nemanja Vidic not quite at the level of a few years ago, Kompany is comfortably the best centre-back playing in England. His performance against Manchester United in the 4-1 win earlier in the season was one of the finest displays you’re likely to see from a defender. He was outstanding.
However, he has become prone to injury, and when he’s missing, as he currently is, City look nowhere near as solid at the back. In fact, there have been times this season—even in matches they’ve ultimately ended up winning—where they’ve looked dreadful defensively. City can cope without any other player, but when Kompany is missing the effect is massive. He has become their most important player.
One look at the statistics backs that claim up. Taking this season into account, City collect far fewer points without Kompany in the side. When he plays, City are taking an average of 2.25 goals per game, which is title-winning form, but when he's absent they collect just 1.66 points per game.

The full details are listed below.

With Kompany 2013/14
Games Played 4.
Goals Conceded 5.
Clean Sheets 1.
Goals Conceded Per Game 1.25.
Form: Won 3, Lost 1.
Points 9.
Points Per Game = 2.25.

Without Kompany 2013/14
Games Played 6.
Goals Conceded 6.
Clean Sheets 3.
Goals Conceded Per Game 1.
Form: Won 3, Drawn 1, Lost 2.
Points 10.
Points Per Game = 1.66.

It was a similar story last season. He missed 12 games through injury and suspension, including a run of six games which wiped out all of February and half of March—a period which saw City lose their way badly and hand the title to United. Once again, with Kompany, City took over two points per game, whereas they slipped to an average of 1.91 without him.

With Kompany 2012/13
Games Played 26.
Goals Conceded 23.
Clean Sheets 11.
Goals Conceded Per Game 0.88.
Form: Won 16, Drawn 7, Lost 3.
Points 55.
Points Per Game Avg. = 2.11.

Without Kompany 2012/13
Games Played 12.
Goals Conceded 11.
Clean Sheets 7.
Goals Conceded Per Game 0.92.
Form: Won 7, Drawn 2, Lost 3.
Points 23.
Points Per Game Avg. = 1.91.

The statistics simply prove what we all already knew, which is that Vincent Kompany makes a huge difference to Manchester City and their ability to win. He is their leader, captain, organiser and best defender.
Any side in world football would miss Kompany, but City must figure out a way of coping better without him. His susceptibility to injury means City will invariably face times when he is unavailable, and they cannot continue to drop points in his absence at the rate they currently are.

Aguero enjoys an evening at the tennis... but City star can't cheer fellow Argentine Del Potro to victory against Djokovic
Sergio Aguero was back at London's O2 Arena to watch fellow Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro in action against Novak Djokovic at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The Manchester City forward was courtside 12 months ago but, unlike last year, Del Potro couldn't come out on top.
The World No 5 was beaten in three sets by Serb star Novak Djokovic and his hopes of reaching the semi-finals now rest on his last group game against Roger Federer.
Last year, Aguero saw Del Potro thrash Janko Tipsarevic 6-0, 6-4 and celebrated by joining the former US Open champion on court for a rally or two.
Del Potro beat Federer in the same building in 2009 in a game that he had to win to make the semi-finals of the World Tour Finals. On that occasion, he pitted his wits against Aguero's former team-mate Carlos Tevez on the court.
There was no repeat this year, though, as Djokovic ran out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 winner in Greenwich.
Aguero enjoyed the evening off after scoring twice for City in their 5-2 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow at the Etihad on Tuesday night.

Chelsea, Arsenal and City on alert with PSG'S Edinson Cavani contemplating summer move
CHELSEA, Arsenal and Manchester City are on standby with PSG striker Edinson Cavani contemplating his future in the French capital.
Reports in France suggest that Cavani may not be entirely happy with his decision to move to Paris from Napoli over the summer and could already be looking to move at the end of the season.
According to Le10Sport, Cavani is not happy about playing second-fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the Parc des Princes and may be ready to ask his advisors to discretely investigate a move away.
Cavani signed a five-year contract with PSG following his £50m transfer in July putting an end to speculation that the Uruguay international could move to England.
Manchester City reportedly made a £29m offer for Cavani in the last transfer window, while Chelsea were also heavily linked with a move for the 26-year old.
Latest reports suggest that despite both clubs investing heavily in other striking options over the summer, both retain an interest in Cavani.
However, it is thought that Arsenal would also welcome an opportunity to bring Cavani to the Premier League having broken with their thrifty transfer habits to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all also thought to be monitoring the situation in case Cavani unexpectedly comes back onto the market.

Sheikh’s Debt Deal for Exxon LNG Stake May Prompt Offers: Energy
A convertible debt deal struck during the 2008 financial crisis led by billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi is set to trigger a contest for a slice of a $19 billion natural gas project.
The export terminal being built by Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) is in Papua New Guinea, one of the world’s poorest nations, which now wants to buy back the debt before it becomes equity for Abu Dhabi. The project is forecast to double the local economy with global LNG demand estimated to rise twofold by 2025.
Sheikh Mansour, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family and owner of Manchester City soccer club, is due to oversee a swap of that debt for a 14.7 percent stake in Oil Search Ltd. (OSH), owner of almost a third of the project. The March conversion date is sparking speculation that producers including Exxon, the world’s biggest energy company, may also seek the holding.
“There could be competition for this stake,” said Johan Hedstrom, senior oil and gas analyst at Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. in Sydney. “There are a number of big companies genuinely interested in getting into Papua New Guinea.”
The coming swap has spurred talks between Abu Dhabi, home to the first gold-bar vending machine, and Papua New Guinea, the Pacific nation near Australia whose gross domestic product is less than 5 percent of Exxon’s $410 billion market value.
Exxon and Total SA (FP) are among potential acquirers for Oil Search, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. said earlier this year. Total declined in an e-mail to comment. Alan Jeffers, an Exxon spokesman in Irving, Texas, said in an e-mail it was the company’s policy not to comment on potential business decisions.
The sheikh is chairman of Abu Dhabi-owned International Petroleum Investment Co., which completed the purchase of the A$1.68 billion ($1.6 billion) of exchangeable bonds in 2009. The emirate has the third-largest sovereign fund with $627 billion in assets, the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute said.
The PNG government already has a 17 percent interest in the project. It wants to hold on to the stock in the company, and IPIC also recognizes Oil Search’s potential, Peter Botten, managing director of the Port Moresby-based company, said in a phone interview. “There’s a commercial dynamic and also a government-to-government dynamic, and on that basis it has a few more dimensions than a straight commercial deal.”
Voice mail messages left at IPIC’s offices in Abu Dhabi weren’t returned. Calls to government offices in Papua New Guinea weren’t answered.
The sheikh is experienced in converting debt and equity. He used convertible stock in 2008 to become at the time the biggest holder in Barclays Plc, and swapped almost $500 million of loans for equity in Manchester City in 2010, two years before the soccer club won its first premiership in 44 years.
Citigroup Inc., UBS AG and Barclays are among banks seeking to provide more than A$1.5 billion in financing to help Papua New Guinea maintain its holding in Oil Search, people with knowledge of the matter said last month. The LNG development is forecast to generate more than $30 billion in cash for the nation over three decades, according to a 2008 report by consultants Acil Allen Consulting.
Total, Europe’s third-biggest oil company, reached a deal last year with Oil Search, which owns a 29 percent stake in the Exxon project, to explore for gas in PNG, while Royal Dutch Shell Plc said in 2011 it would look at opportunities in the country. InterOil Corp. (IOC) started talks this year with Exxon to jointly develop gas fields in the Pacific nation.
“It would potentially put 15 percent of the stock in play” if IPIC gets the shares, said Andrew Williams, Melbourne-based oil and gas analyst for RBC Capital Markets. “It’s what makes the scenario interesting for Oil Search.”
The Asia-Pacific region will account for 29 percent of total worldwide gas demand in 2040, according to Exxon. PNG’s gross domestic product is forecast to almost double to $24 billion from 2011 to 2015, according to the International Monetary Fund. It will gain 21 percent in 2015, the second-fastest growth in the world, according to the data.
“IPIC I’d think would be very interested in maintaining a position in PNG one way or another as an investor because it is looking increasingly attractive as a gas play,” said Tony Regan, a Singapore-based consultant at Tri-Zen International Inc. Oil Search appeals to investors because of the potential to expand the LNG project and develop a second one, he said.
Talks between Papua New Guinea and Abu Dhabi indicate that IPIC is at least interested in a deal, said Mark Samter, a Sydney-based oil and gas analyst at Credit Suisse Group AG. Papua New Guinea may offer Abu Dhabi LNG from its share of supplies from future production units as part of a deal to retain the Oil Search holding, according to the bank.
Still, IPIC is unlikely to sell the stake, according to a Bank of America Merrill Lynch report last month.
IPIC is “typically a very long-term investor, buy and hold, and likes large minority stakes,” Robin Mills, head of consulting at Manaar Energy Consulting & Project Management in Dubai, said in a phone interview.
IPIC’s ownership of the stake could see a speculative premium develop in Oil Search’s share price with a potential acquirer targeting the holding as a cornerstone ahead of a bid, JPMorgan Chase & Co. said in a Sept. 30 report.
“As we progress to deliver PNG LNG and then various high-returning expansion opportunities there’s no doubt there’s going to be a group of people that will be interested in Oil Search and I’m sure that will continue,” Botten said.

Steve Coppell resigns from his post as City manager after only six games in charge hinting the position was too stressful for him. Coppell had left Crystal Palace to move to Maine Road and despite his Manchester United connections, he was welcomed by the City faithful and began his reign with a 2-2 draw against QPR. A defeat to Reading followed before Coppell recorded his first win as City boss, a 2-1 win over Norwich before Wolves beat the Blues 1-0. City then beat Southend 3-2 at Roots Hall but lost 2-0 at Swindon Town in what would be Coppell’s last game in charge. At 33 days, his reign remains the shortest of any City manager.

Police aim to prevent clashes between Manchester United and Manchester City fans
Greater Manchester Police are to increase patrols and impose a two-mile alcohol exclusion zone from Manchester city centre to Eastlands on Wednesday in an attempt to prevent violence marring the game between City and United.
Although police confiscated items such as darts and golf balls from supporters ahead of January’s Carling Cup semi-final first leg between the teams at Eastlands, they are understood to have received no intelligence indicating that trouble is planned by rival supporters on this occasion.
Both clubs were warned by the police and the Football Association not to inflame tensions in the build-up to last season’s Carling Cup second leg at Old Trafford and that game passed off peacefully.
But with on-field rivalry escalating between the two clubs, and less than a month passing since Wayne Rooney’s contract stand-off with United led to suggestions that he was ready to move to City – a transfer that would have been considered as betrayal by United fans – tensions are high among both sets of supporters.
Supt Jim Liggett, the police’s commanding officer for Wednesday’s game, said: “I don’t think we have had a derby in recent years with both teams almost neck and neck. It’s a high-profile match, but one we are experienced in dealing with.”
United will have only 2,562 supporters at Eastlands because there is a 10 per cent cut in the usual 2,846 allocation as a result of persistent standing in seated areas during recent fixtures.

Man City boss Mancini happy seeing Kompany, Toure rowing
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini was happy for his players to row during victory over West Bromwich Albion.
There was a moment of unrest between City's players in the second half when Vincent Kompany, excellent at centre-back, read the riot act to Yaya Toure.
But Mancini said: "I'm happy with them arguing on the pitch. It's better we argue there, it shows we want to win. It's better they do that than stay silent.
"I'm also very happy with the fans, I must say thank you to them. Their support is always there for the team. It's very important."
