That is the exact opposite of what was said on Radio Manchester tonight- that he could be back sooner than expected.

They all say 'could' though; when someone says 'will' we can get excited or depressed.

Online it just says what the other poster quoted. Doesn't give the context - he could have said 'from four to eight weeks' for example or 'it won't be nine weeks!' - they all fit the 'could be ... Up to ..' pattern. BBC suggested less than the four weeks previously mentioned.

Just have to wait for proper news I think.

Thanks. I'd guess it'd be 3 weeks with an extra 2 getting him back to full fitness. Can definately see him playing in 4-5 weeks.

The quote said a month or right weeks, no in between which was odd, so maybe a set up and the press pounced on the worst case.

The media exaggerate? Surely not?
If we had De Gea and the rags had Hart, we'd be top with a 9 point lead and they'd be in 12th place - that's the difference between a 'good' keeper and a 'top class' keeper - 12 places - think about it.

Manchester City relief over Sergio Agüero calf injury
Manchester City are relieved as Sergio Agüero’s calf injury is not as serious as feared by Manuel Pellegrini.
Manchester City relief over Sergio Agüero injury

By Mark Ogden

10:30PM GMT 18 Dec 2013

Sergio Agüero is expected to return for Manchester City before the end of January, with the Argentina forward’s calf injury not as serious as feared by manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Although Pellegrini admitted on Tuesday that Agüero could be sidelined for up to eight weeks as a result of the injury sustained during the Premier League victory against Arsenal on Saturday, it is understood that the player will be fit for selection before the end of next month.

The positive fitness bulletin regarding the 25-year-old has eased concerns over his availability for the first leg of the Champions League second-round tie against Barcelona at the Etihad Stadium on Feb 18.

Although Agüero’s injury has been scanned and assessed, City’s medical staff have told Pellegrini that it could take a month for a clear picture of his recovery timescale to emerge. But the two-month prognosis is regarded as a worst-case scenario, with the club’s 19-goal leading scorer likely to be fit to return within six weeks.

Agüero’s Argentine team-mate Pablo Zabaleta is facing a month on the sidelines, however, after injuring a hamstring in the Capital One Cup quarter-final win at Leicester City.

With Zabaleta joining Micah Richards in the treatment room, City are now without a recognised right back. Dedryck Boyata and Jack Rodwell are both in contention to fill the position against Fulham on Saturday, but James Milner has admitted that he is prepared to take on the role if required.

“I hope that’s not the case [that Zabaleta is out for a month], but if I’m asked to do it, I’ll do that,” Milner said. “Dedryck came in at Leicester and he’s a great young player – he’s got everything, he can defend well, he’s quick, he’s good on the ball.

“It’s down to the manager. If he gets the nod I’ve got every confidence in him. I think he’s a really good young player and he’s got a massive future ahead of him. I’ve never started a game at right back for City, but I’ve filled in, so we’ll see what happens.”

Despite impressing in recent weeks, Milner has struggled to secure a regular starting position under Pellegrini, who dropped the player to the bench against Arsenal following his man-of-the-match performance against Bayern Munich last week.

The former Leeds United midfielder insists that he accepts the need to rotate the squad with City pursuing four trophies, however. “We’ve got a great squad, all the way through. The last three games we’ve played, we have had three very different teams each time and got good results. It shows the quality we’ve got and depth and how well you have to play when you get that chance.”

From the pre-west ham presser, apparently Aguero is back in training and set to return this month!

"I think Sergio will be back during January - he's working, he is training," Pellegrini told a news conference ahead of Wednesday's league Cup semi-final, first leg against West Ham.
"Of course it's very good news. Any players that are recovering from their injuries is very good news, especially an important player like Kun Aguero."
