The Yellow Wall (Dortmund Article)

I went to Dortmund. It was ok but the yellow wall wasn't all that.

I think the acoustic in the Westfalen Stadion is quite bad. I was at the other end of the stadium from the 'yellow wall' and although I could see them bounce up and down (a really cool view), there wasn't that much noise.

The stadium also felt very dated and old. The line to the pisser was a nightmare, and I didn't even bother queuing up for a beer. And Dortmund is a shithole of a town. I much prefer spending my money traveling to England to watch City.

It's a totally different footballing culture. You couldn't recreate it here, nor should you look to. Take the best parts from it yes, but be unique.

It's an enviable set up though, definitely.

'Audition' fans for 1000 free season tickets. We are all being watched, & filmed all the time. Those who consistently turn up & can be seen supporting the team (AND STAYING TO APPLAUD THE TEAM OFF) offer them a seat in a new singing section NOWHERE NEAR THE AWAY FANS for fuck all. Then offer them renewals for £100 the following season, & get another 1000 seats & offer them for £100 to the next batch of fans who are seen to give the best support.

Videoing and bribing your fans to support the team? This is one of the saddest things I've ever read on here and the polar opposite of the Dortmund model.

Hate to break it to you, but they've been videoing you since Maine Rd. And no doubt you have been to loads of games where ticket prices have been reduced in order to get you to attend.

So basically, you don't have a point, at all.

I was at the Dortmund away game like two years ago and I was impressed by the atmosphere for such a non eventful game. It certainly scared Balotelli, that's for sure.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Typical of this country. Is it bollocks disturbing. The cameras are already there filming you picking your fucking nose. . Artificial !!?/ I'm sure you have been to a Premier League game recently; it's the plasticist fucking 'experience' since fucking Legoland ! You can BUY LOYALTY at our club. And picking fans for a singing section like this instead would be artificial & disturbing ?

People could put THEMSELVES forward as supporters who want to be part of it & it would work, & we would have an atmosphere. But any such idea will get shot down because it's not typical football behaviour. But we can buy loyalty, double points in fact.

Remember similar shenanigans in Hamburg in 2009. Big group of us talking to some Hamburg fans, and mate pipes up "anyway you started it, you invaded Poland" - well we laughed anyway. It was in a bar that resembled Fraggle Rock anyway so the locals were a bit nonplussed.

I am wondering how long this love-in for the Bundesliga will continue, given - let me take a wild guess - Bayern are top and will walk it with a cigar on yet again. Yes the Beers good but then it is in most German places, and the people are generally friendly and its easy on the eye. However I find Bundesliga football not great to watch tbh. Ive tried, and actively support whoevers playing Bayern as a my team of the week but Im afraid its like the Italian football thing of the 80s and 90s on Channel 4 - still largely bores me to tears.

Playing devils advocate, If I wanted to watch a league that only 1 team can win, I can whizz up to Scotland for a lot cheaper and quicker than a weekend in Dortmund.
