Just seen that shocking offside decision at the end of the Tottenham-Sunderland match. Whilst I have no sympathy for Tottenham the question yet again must be raised: how the fuck do officials get these decisions so wrong?

They should be getting it right but the rules are so confusing. Forget about the last man, we now have to consider the keeper as well.

I don't know Beefy. It was just so obvious that it couldn't possibly be offside given that Vertonghen had not crossed the halfway line when the ball was played forward to him. I'd have been bloody fuming if that had been us having that chalked off.

Don't get me wrong, it was a terrible call but the reason the lino gave was that the goalkeeper was not behind the player.

Basically, if this new rule were to be applied, all the defending team has to do is get the keeper to run to the centre circle, as everybody would then be classed as offside,
