Micah out, Campbell in?!

Postby Blue Toy » Sat Jan 02, 2010 9:25 am

Unfortunately, I think there is some truth in the Micah story. To the best of my knowledge this deal was done in the summer but didn't go through because Micah didn't want to go. I think it would be a shame to let him go as he has been showing some signs of his old self recently and I for one would like to see how he progresses under Bob.

As for Campbell, short term or not, can he really still cut it in the big league?

TOTTENHAM are poised to make a £12 million January swoop for Manchester City’s Micah Richards.
England defender Richards’ place in the City team under Roberto Mancini could be under threat this month, with the new manager set to reshape his team with big-money moves for several players.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been an admirer of Richards for some time and is ready to make a bid for a player whose career seems to have stalled after a meteoric start.
City, meanwhile, have sounded out Sol Campbell as a possible solution to their ongoing defensive crisis – especially if Spurs’ offer for Richards is too tempting to ignore.
City are ready to press the button on a £25m joint swoop for West Ham’s Matthew Upson and Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic.
But they are understood to have approached Campbell to see if he would be interested in a short-term deal if they fail to land one or both of those players. City are desperate for defensive reinforcements with Joleon Lescott sidelined for another month with a knee ligament injury, Kolo Toure now away at the African Nations Cup and Nedum On uoha also injured.
Campbell, who became available to play again when the transfer window opened yesterday after breaking his contract with Notts County earlier this season, would be keen to resurrect his career at City, even if it was only to the end of the season.
Ironically, City’s neighbours United also approached Campbell last month when they were in the grip of a defensive injury crisis but dropped their interest when they discovered he could not play immediately because of contractual red tape.

I don't think that is going to happen, tbh. But the bolded part really made me laugh, with the money we have there's no offer that can be too tempting to ignore, if we want to sell we will, if we don't want to sell they can offer 40m and we will still say no.

As for Campbell in, I think we have many options to sound before resorting to him, there's Subotic and Upson as mentioned by the paper, there's Cordoba from Inter, and others around the world we can look at, so I don't think that will happen either.

Well I might want Richards out of the 1st team - but I do not want him out of the squad - he has the potential to come back strong (prove it in the reserves please) but this story must be nonsense and why would we bring in Campbell??

Richards wont be sold anytime soon, i can see the logic in bringing in campbell if he can get himself fit he would be an asset to us, hes exactly what were lacking(shame hes old)....
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with you about Richards.

However, I could see Campbell happening. Really, nothing to lose with him as he would only be a short term gamble. The big advantage of doing a deal with him would be that it could happen pretty much immediately as there is no selling club to negotiate with meaning that they would not have to line up a replacement first etc etc. Even though the window is open for a month, there is a reason why more than half the deals happen in the last week!

Even if we took Campbell to cover us (primarily) over January, it would not mean that we could not still go after our real, more long term targets.

I can see the logic in that but would he be fit enough to play immediately? Because if he isn't then we sign him straight away, but then he still needs a week or more to be fully fit...and the advantage of getting him immediately is vastly reduced.

I wouldn't mind campbell being there on a short term deal, he would offer great experience to our younger defenders and I think we would see a big improvement in toures performances

If Campbell didn't want to go before surely he would want to go even less now.His form's ok and it looks like he will be vital to us during January. Campbell as a replacement must be somebody's idea of a joke. Not good enough anymore and he can't be fit enough. I would rather we went for Andy Morrison

Lucky for Micah that he'll have plenty of playing time in the next month or so. £12mil would be tempting tbh and like Chelsea, we'd need to start balancing the books if Twatini gets his way. Fingers crossed he'll maintain his recovery thou

IF YOU READ THE REPORT YOU WILL SEE THAT HE,S NOT PERMANENTLY REPLACING ANYONE - HE,S A POSSIBLE SHIRT TERM SOLUTION SHOULD WE NOT GET ONE OR 2 OF UPSON AND SUBOTIC.

Not this season though, maybe next financial year though so we should keep all players that we want to sell until the Summer window.

SOLUTION TO WHAT!!!!!??? NOT LETTING ENOUGH SHIT GOALS IN??

Mancini won't get rid of Micah Richards for Sol fucking Campbell as he's not a twit & if Hughes had even thought about doing something like that you'd want him hanging in public.

I don't see it as a report but simply newspaper drivel . Of course if it happened it would be short term and I assume cover in case what we still have get injured along with the gaps we aleady have. But still absolutely crazy imo I would much rather see one of the young guns thown in like Boyata or Mee.

Because we need the money or because we fancy helping Spurs finish above us? Can't think of any other reason we'd sell them one of our defenders in the middle of a defensive crisis. I doubt we'd even sell Ben Haim at the moment if we still had him.

This is Harry using his mates in the press to test the water.
