New TV Rights Law for La Liga

Spain approves new law on the sale of TV rights

Real Madrid and Barcelona are being stopped from negotiating their own lucrative television rights deals under a new Spanish law.
New rules, coming into force in 2016, will see rights to show La Liga pooled and sold collectively, bringing it more in line with the Premier League.
The deal, which could see a sharp price increase for broadcasters, will benefit the big clubs but to a lesser extent.
A ministry spokesman said the changes allow Spain to "adapt to modern times".
The ruling will regulate the rights to transmit games in the Spanish first and second divisions as well as the Copa del Rey and Super Cup competitions.
Of total revenues from the sale of the rights, 90% will got to all of the clubs in La Liga - half of that money will be shared equally between the 20 clubs, with the other half divided up according to criteria including recent performance and size.
The other 10% will go to second division clubs, with 70% of that money being divided equally.
Sport ministry spokesman Miguel Cardenal added: "You just have to see that last year the club that came last in the Premier League earned more than [current Spanish champions] Atletico Madrid," Cardenal said.
In February, the Premier League sold television rights to its games for three seasons from 2016-17 for a record £5.136bn.

What this means is the rest of La Liga will get more money, however, it remains to be seen if this will mean a loss in revenue for Barca and Madrid. I am hoping so but you just dont know with the corrupt spaniards.

Have you seen how that 90 percent is being shared out though? It sounds like not much has changed - half of it will be split equally between all 20 clubs in the division, the other half will be shared out according to certain criteria which includes club size and recent performance. I can see Atletico being the big winner here.

That's exactly how I saw it too. I can see the big winners are Athletico, with Barca and Real maybe...just maybe, receiving less than they do now, depending on the amount of the TV new deal. If the TV money isn't great, then Real and Barca will lose out massively, so here's hoping, fingers crossed.

Maybe that's why Real are trying to get Atletico banned from signing players?

In regards to this yes England is better, but we're light years behind in many areas that we don't address or take worse action on. This was the one thing we all knocked Spain for and they are addressing it. Now england blame their lack of
International success on foreigners, punish clubs who invest and have no coaching structure for the future. When will we address our problems?

It's starting, more and more, to look that way.

Your original post on this could well prove to be perceptively accurate.
