18 year old strikers

Postby Douglas Higginbottom » Fri Jul 10, 2015 6:37 pm

I might not be spot on re their ages but it seems we are concentrating some real effort on striking options and now have 4 quality 18 year old strikers.

Iheanacho I see as a massive potential talent and fully expect him in the first team squad this coming season.

Then we have Ambrose who is French and just signed a new long term contract.Unal from Turkey just signed and the latest one Faupala another top young French striker. And that's not to mention others like Buckley and others I might not know.

I can't quite work out what the overall plan is. Maybe Ambrose will stay for at least half this season and the 2 new signings go on loan somewhere but someone somewhere must have a plan. We have just signed Bone and with Iheanacho almost a cert to step up we surely must move one Jovetic and Dzeko to make way.

Yeah, we've gone from having very little to a an absolute bucketful.

Iheanacho I guess moves up to the first team. That seems certain. Hiwula will probably go out on loan again, but he'll end up leaving I reckon.

Ambrose will perhaps continue his education over on the right hand side, though he did suggest here that City could be considering a loan for him. Been suggested too that Unal is someone who will flit around the first team, though surely he'll start with the EDS. Reckon Buckley will carry on with the u18s mainly as he's young enough.

When you consider the quality coming through the 16s too with Tyrese Campbell, Bolton and Nmecha then things start to look real rosy.

I note the latest signing seems to be spoken of as nowhere near ready for first team so will no doubt make his mark in the EDS whilst other lads either bother the bench or move out on loan

Hmmm I didn't think at all about Hiwula and Devante Cole. Both have had loan spells and not without success too but surely their future at City doesn't look great. Hiwula just isn't good enough for the premier league but should have a good career somewhere as a professional.Cole I thought had started to develop well and initial signs were the loans ( certainly initially) were good for him but does all this suggest City don't think he will make it at our level?

Cole might surprise us.

Not looking good for Hiwula and Cole. Big season for these two and I suspect the next loan is putting them in the shop window which will hopefully net us a few quid. Could be horribly wrong of course and one or both might come good. After all, it took Kane a lot of loan moves to find his feet. Still, the academy is starting to produce and that can only be a good thing

Just as an aside, I wonder if the 'powers that be' at City will be keeping a mini profit and loss record of all Academy/Youth system outgoings and comparing that to income received in this sector ??

Obviously all revenues gained from all sources will go into the larger 'pot' but, at the end of the day, I wonder if there's an unwritten requirement for this side of operations to be self sustaining ??

Guy on Bluemoon who is usually 100% nailed on with this stuff, says Hiwula to Huddersfield & Devante Cole has just signed a new deal, which makes me wonder where he is. I would have thought he was nailed on for this tour. Injured perhaps ? Or about to be unveiiled on loan somewhere ?

He also says Denayer, Iheanacho & Lopes have been officially promoted to the first team (whatever that means).

Probably means unavailable for EDS duties at a guess.

Competition is great. We are lucky if one of them makes it as starter calibre player so they will have to compete against each other every single day. And anyway one or two of them will be sent out on loan.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
