The most over- and underpaid transfers of 2015

CIES Football Observatory have put together the most over- and underpaid transfers of 2015.

Source: http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG ... 17_eng.pdf

Of interesting note is that Anthony Martial the most over-paid transfer of 2015, with KDB a close second and Benteke third. Otamendi is found at sixth place.

Of more interesting note is that Raheem Sterling is considered the most under-paid transfer of 2015. Fabian Delph also qualifies in this category (at no 15). Stevan Jovetic is to be found at #18.

The Daily Mirror have written a related article on CIES findings called "The summer transfer window's 20 most overpriced players revealed" published today (8th of September). Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... st-6398792

What are your thoughts about this. I find it speculative at best to call Raheem a snip at a reported fee of 63m, whereas KDB is considered to be the second most over-paid transfer at a reported fee of 74m.

Questionable, to say the least.

Although I do agree with the likes of Chester or Brady being shockingly overpriced for bottom-table transfers. Connor Wickham though?

I suspect that the premise is based on what the players have actually achieved versus potential.

De Bruyne, whilst he has had a very good season, really is not a player with anything like a consistent or excellent track record. There is also the factor of non-german players who seem to struggle when moving from the German league, thinking in particular of the likes of Kagawa. It's a very very big money gamble.

Sterling on the other hand, is a premier league regular. He is already at a level of consistency which whilst not exceptional already has him as an England regular at age 19/20. He won't have issues adapting to a new league/style of play, and is very likely to improve. He will also almost certainly have a sell on fee close to what we paid for him in 3/4 years time even if he doesn't rip up trees (given inflation and the new influx of money into the league).

Martial on the other hand is a total and utter gamble, one of the most bizarre signings I think we've seen in the Premier League since that homeless cunt from Portgual

What a superb sentence. Cheers John. Made me chuckle whilst watching England in a pub in the Isle of Man with the sound off. Blessing in disguise as huddle makes me sleepy.
