Statement from the club:

Manchester City Women FC has been charged with fielding an ineligible player in The FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup.

It is alleged that the player was not registered with the FA WSL, in its match against Sunderland on Saturday 15 August 2015.

It is therefore alleged that the club is in breach of League Cup Rule 5 (Competition Rule 26.5) for fielding an ineligible player.

The club has until 17 September to respond to the charge.

As a result, this weekend’s FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup Quarter-Final fixture between Arsenal and Manchester City (Sunday 13 September) has been postponed.

Terrible news. I know it's a cup fixture but could this result in points deduction in the league?

Probably not Reading did it last season and were removed from the competition.

Terrific respoonse from the FA. Let them play twice more, wait until they got to the kncokout stage and then kick them out.

I like Nick Cushing. Very much.

I agree with that sentiment about Cushing. He seems to have the full respect of the whole of the women's squad and has had to make some tough decisions along the way. Maybe not everything handled as well as they could have been but we have become in 2 years one of , if the not the best women's team in the country. I would say 1 or maybe 2 players short of the finished article.

The Arsenal game was hastily arranged and probably that was disrespectful of the teams involved and the competition itself but it surely was the same for Arsenal as it was for us. A game after playing Sunday and with a big game coming up 3 days later. Our problem was the timing coincided with one or two players missing through injury and others carrying an injury but still having to play.

I'd agree it's as tough for arse as it is for us if arse had a title decider this weekend, mate.

Losing the paperwork? I wonder if they looked on greg dyke's desk.

Did the FA apologise to us for losing the paperwork and blaming us for it? (I'm guessing they didn't). My understanding is they accused us of fielding an ineligible player based on lack of paperwork at their end and we proved we'd sent it by providing an acknowledgement email received from the FA.

The England performance at the World Cup seems to have had a positive effect on domestic attendances, and City are leading the way with the highest average attendance for the season just gone:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34447139

Women's Super League One crowds have seen a major increase from last season, the Football Association has announced.

The top division of women's football saw an overall 48% rise, with the average league attendance being 1,076 compared to 728 in 2014.

Newly-crowned champions Chelsea Ladies enjoyed the biggest gain with a 164% increase, while Sunderland were second with a 123% rise.

Manchester City had the highest average attendance of 1,500.

They also claimed the season's single highest attendance with 3,180 supporters at the Academy Stadium on Sunday, as City beat Notts County on the final day of the 2015 WSL 1 campaign.

England's success at this summer's World Cup appears to have had a major impact on women's football, with attendances up by 29% compared to matches before the tournament.

FA director of football participation and development Kelly Simmons said: "The sheer increase in attendances we've seen this season shows just what appetite there is for the women's game in this country.

"2015 has been a landmark year for women's football, with the success of the England team at the World Cup and the first-ever SSE Women's FA Cup Final at Wembley, and this is another marker of just how far the game has come."
