Manchester City are poised to name former Manchester United winger Simon Davies as Patrick Vieira's replacement as the club's under-21s manager, sources have told ESPN FC.
Davies was Vieira's assistant with the Elite Development Squad, and sources say he will be handed the role to replace the Frenchman when Vieira departs to take over at City's MLS sister club, New York City FC, on Jan 1, 2016.
The 41-year-old, who took up his position as assistant to Vieira in 2013, has impressed City's hierarchy and they see him as the man who can help develop the next young stars to progress from the club's academy into the first team.
Players such as Kelechi Iheanacho, George Evans and Manu Garcia have all featured in the first team this season, and City want to bring through as many of their own players in the future as possible.
Davies was a member of United's famed "Class of 92" team alongside Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary Nevillethat won the FA Youht Cup in 1991-92 season.
However, he failed to establish himself as a regular in the United senior side, making just 11 first-team appearances during his time at Old Trafford.
